The Planning Committee meeting scheduled for today (9th January) will not be going ahead as the only item on the agenda requiring a decision "Local List (Validation or 1APP) Requirements Consultation" is not something that VTC can meaningfully respond to usefully.

Esplanade CCTV Consultation

Following several instances of vandalism to the toilets, costing the ratepayer significantly, Ventnor Town Council agreed on 20 February 2024 to install CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) cameras outside Ventnor Eastern Esplanade Toilets.

The decision to proceed required a public consultation, and we are inviting residents to participate by completing a simple form - please see our website for further details (link below).

We are pleased to say that as a one-off, the four car parks that we manage in Ventnor (Dudley Road, Market Street, Pound Lane, and Shore Road) will be free from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday 7th December in support of Small Business Saturday.

Leeson Road has thankfully re-opened. Therefore the free parking on Saturdays has ended in our car parks (Dudley Road, Market Street & Pound Lane) so please pay by the normal methods going forward.

We are pleased to have been able to do something to help businesses and locals during the time that the road was closed.

Awards for Ventnor Park & Cascades

Ventnor Park was successful in achieving a Gold Award in the South & South East in Bloom Park category, and Ventnor Cascades achieved a Silver Gilt Award under the Small Park category.

Congratulations to our contractor, John O’Conner for maintaining the grounds to this standard.

Barnardo’s weekly Pop in Chat and Information session has a visit from the Department for Works and Pensions at The Ventnor Drop in on Monday 11th November 10am till 12pm. You can get advice about benefits, cost of living advice, work experience and looking for jobs and childcare.

Ventnor Community Playgroup is also running that morning so why not go along and say hello!

❗Hedge cutting at Hambrough Road ❗

Our contractor is arranging for the hedge along Hambrough Road to be cut back Tomorrow morning (Thursday 10th October) at 9am.

The Hambrough have agreed to help us with some signage on these cars and some cones to ensure the tractor can reach the overgrowth.

If these cars are yours (or you recognise them) please can we ask that you move them prior to tomorrow morning.

𝗠𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝟯 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲!🏝

Ventnor's open-air paddling pool on its Esplanade has been awarded second place in The Seaside Heritage Network's Bucket and Spade List of the Top Ten favourite seaside places to visit. The voting was open to the general public and Ventnor's paddling pool was pipped to the post by New Palace and Adventureland at New Brighton, Merseyside.🥈

💬 Ventnor Mayor Cllr Steve Cooper thanked everyone who voted and said the award was a reflection of the effort by those who look after the paddling pool:

"Ventnor Town Council was delighted to take part in the Seaside Heritage Network competition and very humbled, but proud that our seafront Island paddling pool has achieved the runner-up slot. It is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike and by all ages, and to be recognised is to say thank you to all that maintain and keep the asset looking so bright and welcoming."

Voters in the competition were encouraged to leave comments as to why they believed it should be included in the top ten list for 2024, which included remarks such as:

"It’s so place-specific and gives everyone who sees it, or better still paddles in it, a sense of local geography that jogs memories" and "I first enjoyed this pool in the 60s and it is still as popular as ever. Free and well-used whatever the weather with Ventnor beach just yards away."

We'd like to say a big THANK YOU to those who voted for Ventnor in this competition.👏
