This evening I was at Gosport Town Hall where Mr John Beavis MBE - a long term Councillor became an Honorary Alderman. A well known figure in the area Mr Beavis was honoured by Councillors and described as ‘Mr Lee-on-Solent’ in the Chamber in reference to his tireless commitment to the town. He is pictured here with the recently appointed Mayor of Gosport - Mr Richard Earle. Photo; NewBold photography/Newbold PR & MEDIA

I was delighted to support The Matrix Trust dinner last night. Matrix does great work in our community supporting children and young people with their emotional and wellbeing needs. They run the Hideaway Café in Allen Gardens where young people can learn catering and hospitality skills. Great place for a coffee ☕ if you are looking for somewhere new to try!

Well done to Shira Moberg for organising a great evening which raised around £10k for the charity! 👏

It was nice to see a familiar face, former Mayor, Cllr Masuk Miah there too. 😊

I met Jo Tester, CEO of Guildford Action last week to see how I can help them during my Mayoral year. 🙌 I will be supporting their Big Sleep Out later this year by finding a venue and raising funds by sleeping out too! 😴 Look out for the date announcement soon if you would like to join me in supporting them! 🥰

I had great fun cutting the ribbon on this new interactive play equipment at Stoke Park gardens last week! Along with some of our Guildford Borough Council Parks and Street Scene team. The Yalp / Interactive Sports and Play Equipment dance and play arch is the only one of its kind in Surrey, so I’m delighted that it’s here in Guildford! I’m sure children of all ages and ability will have fun using it. 😊💃

Today my great friend Dick Jones (), introduced me to a few Gosport characters, one of which was artist Richard Smith. After an interesting conversation with this talented and interesting creative, I felt compelled to introduce his skill to social media (with his permission). DJ and I are both passionate about showcasing the work of local artists and helping them to reach a larger audience. Photographs do not do this man’s work justice as the scale and 3d elements are part of the viewing experience. Please welcome him to social media with a like or comment and I hope to share more of his work with you in the future.

Congratulations to the two Surrey volunteer groups honoured with the first King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2023.

The volunteers from The Guildford Archery Club and Surrey Heath Age Concern, who dedicate their valuable time and experience to help individuals and communities across this county, have been rewarded with the prestigious 2023 King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) announced on today. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Welcoming the announcement, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, congratulated the winning groups and highlighted the outstanding contribution made by these volunteers

So proud of Holly Johnson BSc on graduating at Staffordshire University this week. I’ve known you since you were born and always knew you would achieve great things. Best of all those great things mean making the ultimate difference to peoples lives - and in many cases saving them. Proud to have been a close friend to you and your family and congratulations on your award. You are an amazing, caring and dedicated person - the National Health Service are lucky to have you working with them.
