One of the fascinating things to watch/listen to has been the revival of the instrumental album across the broad spectrum of music. Our long list in this section was our longest ever, our shortlist comes down to these three:

Henry Parker & David Ian Roberts - Chasing Light
Talisk - Live At The Barrowlands
Thorpe & Morrison - Grass & Granite

One of the great things about running a magazine is getting to hear new artists. There seems to be less of a rush in recent years to get a debut album released. That's partly been a cost issue and in part an artistic one, both leading to acts exploring their music more and building that following before committing to the debut album, but as you can see, 2024 produced some real crackers:
Amelia Coburn - Between The Moon And The Milkman
Sorrel Nation - Lost En Route
Susy Wall - The Spaces In Between

The role of the single/EP/Mini Album for bringing focus on a tour, album release or simply for an artist to say "I'm here" shouldn't be underestimated. The three Fatea nominations for that only reinforce the point:
Bonfire Radicals - Flywheel
Eleanor Dunsdon & Gregor Black - Let No Man
Lizzy Hardingham - Gingerbeer

Recognising Achievement in 2024
Fatea is proud to announce the shortlists for the Fatea Awards. The awards are nominated by the Fatea team and recognise excellence over 2024.
Each award has a shortlist of three and we congratulate all artists on our shortlist as well as the many others that were nominated and every artist and band that released music or performed live during 2024.
No artist is allowed to win more than one award and all have featured in the magazine during the last year. The nominations are listed in alphabetical order.
The winners of the Fatea Awards will be announced during a two hour radio special, this year hosted by Folk Friday Radio on January 12th at 7PM(GMT).

Only a handful of people have heard MotherLand so far as I've not even opened pre-orders yet (coming *this Friday*, 6th December). Those who have are long-term artist friends and role models who've inspired me greatly over the years and whom I've had the pleasure of bumping into recently. This is what two of them very kindly thought:

"IN LOVE with your CD. Stunning!" (James Mayhew, amazing award-winning illustrator and author whose incredible children's books are much-beloved in my little family). James has also very generously made some public posts (below), especially about my album launch show at The Old Town Hall on 31th January.

"Your new album is INCREDIBLE! Honestly, it's absolutely superb. A real triumph" (Steve Pledger, wonderful singer-songwriter, Fatea Magazine's Album of the Year and Track of the Year)

This Friday, you'll be able to secure your own copy ❤
(in time for Christmas, guaranteed)
Not long to wait!!
