Part Two

It’s your teaser for MusedayTuesday. Coming up later this year we launch a brand new show on SoundOfSpitfire.

Taking inspiration from the bands and artists played by legendary DJs such as John Peel, we bring you a 2hr show exploring the music that emerged between 1967-76.

The evolution from rock n folk to sunshine pop and progressive rock enables us to play the likes of Pink Floyd, The Move, Jethro Tull, Cream and Jefferson Airplane to name but a few…

Join us on “The Groovy Train” boarding from SoundofSpitfire later in 2025

Part One

THE SURVEY RESULTS ARE IN!

On Monday we ran a survey to understand how you (the loyal SoS Listener) access the SoundofSpitfire Shows. Why did we do this? Well it’s simple, we’re just plain nosey!….Not really! 🤣

No, the reason was that we need to know how people access the station and which methods are most popular. This helps us in a number of ways, namely:

1. Understanding which methods are most popular to target new listeners via Social Media posts etc.
2. Some access methods attract an Annual Fee, so if they aren’t used we could stop them (and save money)?
3. To understand if people know that there are multiple ways of accessing the station (always useful to have an alternative if your preferred method is offline)

So, here are the results (Caveat: A small sample group, but nevertheless representative of the broader listenership)

33% of respondents use the .co.uk Radioplayer as their primary source, with 37% stating that they use it as an alternative, for example when out-and-about in the car

33% of respondents prefer the Amazon Alexa for listening. SoundofSpitfire has a dedicated Alexa Skill for ease of access. The first time of use, users should “Enable SoundofSpitfire” then thereafter simply “Play SoundofSpitfire”

25% of respondents use the .info Radioplayer via the main website as their primary source and another 25% use it as their alternative - TopTip: Did you know you can “pop out the player” and keep it in the background while you surf the web or do other things on your Computer, Tablet or Phone?

9% of respondents stated that they use a third-party Radio App as their primary source, with a further 20% of respondents using Radio Apps as alternatives. In a later post we’ll list the Apps that are available

(Total number of respondents-12 which equates to 18% of SoundofSpitfire Listeners Group Membership)

Conclusion - Variety is key to success and it is obvious through the data that no single access method outstrips another. Also, approximately 50% of listeners enjoy the option of an alternative method to listen. The data has shown that SoundofSpitfire must continue to offer a variety of access methods to serve our listeners and when promoting content on social media etc. we must ensure that alternative access methods are stated in every post. Lastly, a request to you, the loyal listeners… if you are mentioning SoundofSpitfire to friends, family, colleagues etc. don’t forget to tell them how they can access the station, or better still show them on their device!

A huge thanks to everybody that contributed to the survey - you’re absolutely great and it is really appreciated.

Sound Of Spitfire - The Journey

This is the official Facebook home of Sound Of Spitfire - #TheStationYouAllDeserve. Spitfire Radio originally served Southampton, Christchurch and The New Forest. In December 2017 the station closed. In January 2018 the station ownership was transferred and relocated to Spalding, South Lincolnshire.

Officially relaunched as Sound of Spitfire on 2 April 2018, we ceased broadcasting on 31 January 2019 to enable changes to our format and a new technical platform to be installed. After a staged return through March to May 2019 we completely changed format in June 2019 and we are currently broadcasting 7am to midnight and will continue to do so.

Our range of programmes will aim to entertain and inform. With local and national contributors providing a diverse mix of music, we ensure that there is something of interest to everyone. Although based in the South Holland area of Lincolnshire there is plenty of content that listeners from farther afield will enjoy. We’re excited to bring a mix of broadcasters from across the UK that each provide their own unique style. You can listen 17hrs a day now via Amazon Echo & Dot (Enable & Play “Sound of Spitfire”), Radio.net (search “sound of spitfire”) and our website (www.soundofspitfire.co.uk). Also, follow us on Twitter @soundofspitfire for the latest live news and information about programmes and schedules.

We look forward to you joining us
