Ron Maughan is a sports nutritionist and exercise physiologist. He obtained his BSc and PhD from the University of Aberdeen, and has since worked as a visiting professor at St Andrews University. He has published extensively on the topic of sports nutrition, and is the author or editor of several books on the subject. In 2017, he organised the IOC Consensus Conference on Dietary Supplements in Elite Sport. In this episode of the podcast, we discuss a number of the core themes in sports nutrition and debunks a few myths. In particular, he talks about the IOC consensus statement on dietary supplements and the high-performance athlete, which states that only a few supplements (including caffeine, creatine, and nitrate) have been shown to be beneficial for athletes.
