This amazing woman is Caroline Richards. I had the privelege of meeting with her a couple of weeks ago to tell her incredible story. Caroline was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer ten years ago. She was told she had at most two years left to live. She never thought she would get to see her son grow into the child that he is today. She has endured years and years of treatment every time the cancer returned.

"I'm not too keen on the fighting talk that's used around cancer but I understand why it is. It feels like a fight. But it's unfair to call it a fight when I have no chance of winning. Cancer will kill me. I know that. But how I choose to live my life and the way I live my life with cancer is where I feel I am winning."

Penny Hole admitted that she didn't think much about checking her breasts as she always made sure to go for a mammogram when called for one. The mam of three from Swansea was watching the Lorraine show with her daughter when a campaign about checking your breasts was discussed.
"You should make sure to check yours," she told her daughter. Her daughter replied: "Do you check yours?"
'Not really' was her thought. She sat back and checked her breasts, and found a mass. Read the full story here:

Penny Hole was watching a segment on Lorraine that urged women to check their breasts. She found a mass on her left breast in that very same moment.

It is 27 degrees in Wales in September and there is a perfect breeze and your Mam has already got two loads of washing on the line. Now she's stripping the beds, the towels, the cushion covers, blankets. Can she remove the setee covers? What about the rug, will that fit in the washing machine? No pet bed is safe. No soft furnishing will go unwashed.

This is the moment Jenna Williams, alongside her dad Kevin, called her sister Kirsty to let her know that a donor heart which would save her life had just become available. Jenna had been living in hospital for more than a year being kept alive by a machine before she underwent her second heart transplant surgery in June this year. Dad Kevin was also waiting for a donor heart, and has been for the last five years, but he was content with knowing his daughter's life had been saved. Less than two weeks later, he got the call to say it was his turn. Organ donation saves lives. Read the full story here: https://bit.ly/45cEaOJ

Up until recently, this was my toddler's bedtime routine. Get in bed, read a story, get out of bed, try some shoes on, climb up the bed, jump off the bed, find some toys, go back to bed with those toys, then sleep (sometimes.) It was taking anything from one, to three hours to get him to fall asleep. I knew it wasn't because he "just wasn't tired enough", and I was really concerned about his behaviour and development.

My sister even sent him home from a sleepover at her house because he just would not sleep! Enough was enough, I put my strict parent hat on, and fixed him (as much as the little tornado can be fixed). Find out how: https://bit.ly/44RtAN6

We hear so much about how there is an obesity problem among our children in Wales, but we don't often see success stories, or hear about how this can be addressed.

Yesterday, I spoke to 15-year-old Riley Hayes. When he started his weight loss journey a year ago, he was classed as morbidly obese. Our teenage years are some of our most formative, it is when we either make, or break good and bad habits. Over the last 12 months, Riley has certainly made good habits, all with the help of Steve Wall.

Steve is a personal trainer and life coach, to him, it isn't about your goal weight, it is about your life goal. For Riley, his goal was to get back out on his bike again. And he achieved that. Steve told me he hasn't given Riley a hard calorie-restricted diet, but has empowered Riley to make the decision for himself, and taught him to exercise for fun, which in my opinion is the most effective way of breaking bad habits, forming new good ones, and ultimately keeping the weight off - leading to live a happier and healthier life. Well done Riley 👏 Read more of his story here: https://bit.ly/44MyvPg

This really is incredible news when it comes to advances in medical sciences.

“We’re entering a new era where Alzheimer’s disease could become treatable”.

The Alzheimer’s Society said that treatments like donanemab could one day mean that Alzheimer’s could be likened to other long-term conditions such as asthma or diabetes

Today the Welsh Government announced that it was cracking down on high fat, sugar and salt foods.

They plan on banning certain foods from being included in meal deal offers, 3 for 2s and BOGOF deals, and temporary promotions. You also won't see your favourite snacks on the ends of aisles and near checkouts.

All of this is being done in an effort to tackle Wales' obesity crisis. Over 60% of adults in Wales are above a healthy weight and over a quarter of children are overweight or obese by the time they start school.

These figures are truly shocking. Obesity can lead to a number of diseases, most notable type 2 diabetes (which has increased by 40% in Wales in the last decade). But obesity can also contribute to various types of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

So, why target meal deals? Research has found that a person who eats a meal deal everyday for a year, could gain anything from 6lbs to three stone in that time period. There is research that suggests price promotions on unhealthy foods results in "unintended purchases" in our weekly shops.

You can read more about the plans here:
