CAMRA AWARDS

🍺 One of my favourite events of the year 😊 CAMRA - IW Campaign for Real Ale - annual award for best brew and best pub. This year it was Goddard’s Fuggle-Dee-Dum, a wonderful rich bitter, and the Newport Ale House.

🍺 Thank you all for chatting, especially our brilliant brewers, Aisling and Josh from Goddards and Ashley from Island Brewery. Great atmosphere and lovely brews.🙏

On the campaign front, I’ve been out in Cowes yesterday and Godshill today knocking on doors. Thank you to those who’ve taken the time to chat. Back out in Newport tomorrow.

Akademik Fedorov returns from the Southern Ocean.

Due to pass northeast bound through the Straits this evening, is the Russian scientific research vessel Akademik Fedorov, flagship of the Russian polar research fleet. The vessel visited her regular port of call, Durban, on both the outgoing and return voyages. Fedorov also uses Cape Town on a regular basis. Her stated destination is Leningrad (Saint Petersburg).

The vessel can accommodate two helicopters, in this case, a pair of Mil Mi-8 units, used extensively in a transport role when the vessel is stationed in the Antarctic.

If the current visibility stays as it is, it should be possible to spot her as she makes her way up the NE Lane, off the French coast this evening. The vessel is currently (1215 BST) due south of the Isle of Wight, making just over 15 knots.

My thanks to John, for the heads up.

It's always wonderful to see the race featured as one of the Top UK Yacht Races by Sailing Today Yachts and Yachting Magazine

"It’s billed as 'Britain’s Favourite Yacht Race', seeing cruising yacht pleasure sailors head around the course with some of the biggest professional names, competing on cutting-edge race boats."
