Abu Maruf’s “Mar Jaatey Hein” is an Urdu Ghazal - a form of poetry where verses are independent, but are linked – abstractly, in their theme; and more strictly in their poetic form. Despite pain, Ghazal can be understood as a poetic manifestation of loss or separation as well as the beauty of love. The Ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry.
