The self-indulgent special fifth-birthday episode is tomorrow, but for now - today - Pick A Disc is five years old.

So, happy birthday me. I get all sentimental and gushy in tomorrow's bonus episode. So go and listen to that when it drops in... Ooh, two hours.

Tuesday's episode includes talk of way more members of Take That than expected, boring to death with talk of famous footballing Left-backs, nuclear annihilation, clapping during known false endings of songs, my rapping (both linked, obvs) and introspective analysis of being an indie podcaster with a very, very small following.

In celebration of the podcast reaching Five Years Old, Tuesday's bonus episode seems me talking to  Colin Jackson-Brown about ten songs that I probably won't ever get chance to talk about on the podcast, or haven't. So get ready to hear me talk about ten random songs I really want to give airtime to...

Have you listened to the latest episode of yet? and talk about the album "Bad Dream Hotline" by FOE, the former project of . As picked by me (Matt)!

In the episode I day I've seen HLC three times. In fact I've seen her four. Only once as FOE (Y-Not, 2012) though.

I've seen HLC perform under her own name at 2000 Trees, at the Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham and 2Q Festival in Derby. Always been great live and well worth seeing.

You can listen to the episode wherever you get your podcasts!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Get ready for a new episode! The first episode of 2024 - and it's Matt Pick! And Matt isn't even in it. Kinda. Apart from that long bit he talks.

Yep - this is the final part of a trilogy of episodes in which a third party picks an album for two people to listen to blind! So And get introduced by "Bad Dream Hot line" by FOE, an old musical project from singer Hannah Lou Clark. It's an album that Matt loves dearly, but what did Colin and Mark think of it?

And now it's the End of the Year Gig Awards!

A mixture of new discoveries, seeing bands I'd never thought I'd see and honest surprises - 2023 was a big year for me in terms of gig going. Here are my favourite memories and gigs of the year!

2023 GIG WRAPPED!

In a mixture of Photoshop and Spreadsheets - I can reveal my Gig Wrapped for 2023! Where I broke my record for most gigs in a single year.

So Maisie Peters was my most seen headliner, tied with Dead Pony, Cate and Lizzie Esau if You factor in support/festival slots.

As always Birmingham topped the cities (as I live there).

Headline figure is Boat To Row's dominance at the top of my most seen artist being matched by Charlotte Carpenter. This is absolutely big news.

I suspect, because of Plans That Involve Money, that the number of gigs will drop in 2024. But I still suspect I will reach the *500th* gig next year. I wonder who it will be....

I also don't apologise for my compulsive tracking of my gig history. May it continue!

GIG #476 // #55: JOHNNY FOREIGNER ()

THEY PLAYED "YES! YOU TALK TOO FAST!".

Ahem. Sorry. But when one of my all time favourite bands play one of my all time favourite songs, it's time to get a little bit excited. I don't know what to say about JoFo that I haven't already said already. I'm completely a fan girl over them and they still can be an exciting live band. I think this is the 18th time I've seen them play, and the 14th headline show of theirs. My most seen headline act.

A few new songs sprinkled into a set of older songs, including a couple of live must-haves (Eyes, SS&S, JFvsY, ECE) with a few I don't think they play as much.

But I love this band. So many of my favourite gigs are theirs.

I look forward to what happens in the future and the Thing That They Can't Really Talk About That They Mentioned Last Christmas as well.

Also - last gig of the year! Bring on the Gig wrapped!
