BRASS TACKS pt2 by Laurie Holland is now available. https://www.targetshooter.co.uk/?p=4115

Whilst uploading Laurie's lengthy but very informative article, it got me thinking - where do we get our accuracy information from? There are no paper magazines to replace the excellent Precision Shooting mag which dissappeared about 20 years ago. The internet has to some extent stepped in, with the likes of EriK Cortina and Brian Litz freely sharing their information.
In the old days of Precision Shooting magazine it was mainly benchrest authors who were sharing this cutting edge information but now, the accuracy bug has spread to F Class and PRS but beware - there are a lot of internet jockeys out there who happily write absolute rubbish with no shooting credentials to their name.

Primers are always a talking-point and not just the cost and scarcity!

"Will it make any difference if I switch to a small-primer case?
Do I need to adjust my load?"

If you've ever asked these questions then you might enjoy delving into Laurie Holland's latest in-depth look at the small primer/large primer issue.
This is not one for the plinkers but serious reloaders will almost certainly learn something.

IT STARTED IN THE SHED - The story of Accuracy International by Dave Walls
We don't normally review books in Target Shooter but this one is the exception.
Honestly, even if you weren't a shooter this is still a great read - detailing the triumphs, tradgedy, achievements, struggles of the man behind Accuracy International. But, for the shooter it goes into fantastic detail on the development and manufacture of the most famous and desirable British rifle ever produced. I've never owned an AI but I want one now - just to be a part of this remarkable British shooting story!

I'm so gratefull to Darrel Evans for presenting me with my copy signed by Dave Walls himself. Awesome!

A new front benchrest for air and rimfire from Seb - click on

I took up competitive centrefire benchrest shooting three decades ago and in that time the rifles have hardly changed. In contrast, the way we support our rifles has changed beyond recognition. A simple tri-pod front rest – with levelling screws but no windage or elevation adjustment was the order...

Presently, shooting is under threat from many directions – rising costs and availability of components plus the impending lead ban, to name but three. We are all becoming a little more aware of shortages and costs and maybe we are rummaging around in our reloading rooms for part boxes of bullets, ...

As many of us are resigning ourselves to a cold six months of shooting, hopefully Rod Formosa's report of his latest ELR match held earlier this month in sunny Sicily will banish the winter blues.

It’s some time since we featured ELR in Target Shooter – thanks to Covid! I’m pleased to see that it has recovered and is alive and well in Europe, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Rod Formosa who has found a great venue in Sicily. This report represents the third running of…

WI******ER StaBALL 6.5 vs HODGDON H4350 The powder availability updates in the Reach-Out series make for a dismal tale, a steady loss of products, Reach-compliant or not. We finally have some good news with the introduction of three new Reach-compliant Wi******er ball powders, the ‘StaBALL’ seri...

Cick on http://www.targetshooter.co.uk/?p=3986 to check out this great new range bag from Aim Field

There are hundreds of shooting products on the market but only a few are designed by shooters – and it shows. We are fortunate that John Dean – CEO of Aim Field Sports – is a keen target shooter and a regular F Class competitor. When he introduced his drag-bag 17 years ago, it was…

If you’re an accuracy nut and compete at the highest level, then I guarantee you obsess about neck-tension with your homeloads. No, we are not going to talk about neck-turning but we ran an article a few issues ago in Target Shooter (http://www.targetshooter.co.uk/?p=3921) showing how consistent n...

REACH - OUT 9
Laurie Holland is coming to the end of his in-depth research into REACH compliant powders following the un-availability of many of our favorite Hodgdon powders. Feedback from readers confirms the value of Laurie's research as many of us strive to find Varget, H4895, H4350 etc alternatives. The alternatives are out there folks! If you get good results with alternatives please post on this page.

Case prep benchrest-style with tools from ARC Ballistics

In a round of ammunition, the cartridge case is the only item we re-use, so it makes sense to prepare it properly if we are to get the very best performance from our re-loads. Short-range benchrest (100-200 yards) is, without question, the ultimate accuracy discipline. Quarter MOA? Forget it – tha...

Case trimming - the ARC Trimmer

If you're serious about your shooting then you need to be on top of your re-loading and that includes case trimming.
Click on http://www.targetshooter.co.uk/?p=3891 for an update on the latest trimmers including the UK ARC trimmer.

If you shoot a custom rifle, you will almost certainly need to trim your cases on a regular basis. Why do I specify ‘custom’ rifle? Don’t all cases need trimming eventually? Maybe. Generally, if you have a custom barrel on your rifle, the chamber will be a pretty close match to your cartridge ...

RIMFIRE F CLASS ANYONE?
Read John Campbell-Smith's article by clicking on

There appears to be a growing interest in rimfire – should I be surprised? Maybe not, with the ever increasing cost of components – not to mention their scarcity at the moment. I know the PRS competitors like to train with a rimfire rifle configured closely to their fullbore comp. gun but what t...

REACH OUT - 7

Laurie has now reached the seventh installment of his articles featuring alternatives for the now unobtainable powders affected by the European REACH regulations.

This chapter features on substitutes for Hodgdon 4895 and the much missed Varget. I'm a great Varget fan for my 6mmBR benchgun but let's not forget David Sharpe who set a new 1000 yard benchrest UK record just a few weeks ago using Vit N150 in his 6mmBR - there are alternatives.....
