From mid-table mediocrity to the top of the table - and with more than a dozen international players in the squad - Northampton have a target on their back as the team to beat. Hilary Scott speaks to Fin Smith, Alex Mitchell and Tommy Freeman about losing, winning and doing it all over again in the new season. "When I was in the academy, I'd look about and be like 'there’s Stevie Myler, Ben Foden...' and I was like, oh, be really polite around them and what-not," says Saints and England scrum-half…...

Hilary Scott chatted to coaches and players about preparations for the new season. For the coaching squad it's business as usual - albeit with a new-ish addition in sports psychologist Oli Dixon - fresh from working with the British Olympic team....

Shared on behalf of Northampton Civic trust:
Appeal for Financial Project Support

Many of you will have seen our Save St James Tram & Bus Depot campaign and as part of that we have been working to secure the last Northampton Corporation Transport documents that were left in the loft space of the office building.

For over ten years they have remained there in the care of Church's, the building owners.

Now the building is up for sale (now sstc) Church''s have been very gracious and allowed NTH access to the depot (pictures to follow) and secure the documents. We are working alongside and with the guidance of Northamptonshire Archives and Heritage Service who are very supportive and their knowledge is invaluable.

There is an incredible amount to sort through and it will take time to sift and catalogue. We have secured a room for two months across the road at the The Doddridge & St James Community Centres who have given us a special charity rate of hire, and we are very grateful to them.

So, we would like to extend that two month period for as long as we can, but certainly for at least six months, in order that we do not need to rush the project. We need to raise at least £1000 so can stay six months or £2500 will give us a year!

So, can you make a donation to the room hire costs to help us with this important project that will save important historical, NCT documents?

We would be extremely appreciative of any money you can spare to help us with this project. 🙏

You can donate via this link or contact us for other ways to donate using the messenger facility or email [email protected]

The pictures show just a small amount of what we need to process.

If you have experience or an interest in saving documentation like this and would like to help with the sift contact Neil Farmer [email protected]

Twenty minutes into Saints home victory over Saracens, just after Moon and Ludlam had crossed the line to score and perhaps three more scoring chances were lost to butterfingers, BT Sport had a touchline chat with one of the visiting coaches. He was asked to reflect on how well his side were controlling the game. To be fair, he did seem a bit wrongfooted by the question....

To some degree rugby operates in its own reality of outrageous expectations. Little guys bring down big guys. Un-kickable objects get booted through impossible gaps at unlikely angles. Players go forwards but the ball goes backwards. The team that got spanked last week will do the spanking this week. It's the 'reaction' game. A team takes a shock result (like Bristol rugbying the bejesus out of us in the previous round) and takes it forward as motivation for the next week....
