We've been thinking of ways to expand on our Vintage Magazine Challenge, as it is currently our longest running challenge we felt we should mix things up a little!
We're excited to say we've landed on a new format which we think you'll love - Each quarter we will be selecting one publication for the Vintage Mag Challenge, this will be distributed to everyone who gets involved - the catch is you won't know what magazine you'll be working with until it arrives at your doorstep.
This means that for three months, artists all over the globe will be working on creating works all from the same series of a single publication, all to be collected and curated for display on our Instagram, our CC. Blog and featured in CC. Magazine!!
Over the next few weeks we'll be sharing submissions that came to us before we decided to shake things up to show you just what can be achieved with this challenge!
"To begin with I spent a good couple of hours flicking through the magazine to see what interested me visually, as well as reading the odd article! Once I’d selected my favourite elements I began experimenting with different arrangements, colour combinations and textures. As my practice is centred on celebrating and remembering individuals often overlooked by history I was really inspired by the feature on Beatrice Ward, the UK’s First Lady of Typography, so I enjoyed creating a collage to highlight her work. Combining images, texts and papers always seems to unlock unspoken thoughts and feelings when I’m in the studio so I also found myself unconsciously creating pieces which explored the perilous nature of trying to carve out a creative career as a self taught artist." - Lela Harris
