Deborah Danelley took part in our London Collage Project in May of 2025. During the week she produced some beautiful collages working with found materials from the streets of the city. However, we were aware that back home in her studio, she produces much different work using vintage books. So, we asked Deborah to give us some insights into the other side of her collage creativity.

John Stezaker has been a pioneering force in contemporary collage for over five decades, known for transforming found photographs into unsettling, poetic new realities. Since the 1970s, he has used simple cuts and unexpected juxtapositions to disrupt familiar imagery and reveal hidden meanings. His work blends elegance with disquiet, inviting viewers to question identity, memory and the nature of the image itself. Stezaker’s collages slow us down, and remind us of the strange magic in the photographic fragment. We met with John in his studio in St. Leonards-on-Sea to look back at his career and talk about recent projects.

Chris Ashworth is a typographer and designer known for his bold, kinetic visual language and his ability to fuse typography, texture and emotion into unforgettable work. Best recognised for his influential tenure at Ray Gun magazine and his experimental approach to layout, Ashworth pushes design beyond aesthetics into storytelling. His work challenges convention, embraces imperfection and captures the restless energy of contemporary culture-making him one of the most distinctive voices in modern graphic design.

Robert Roth’s work is rooted in a deep sense of place – both remembered and imagined. Whether he’s constructing weather-worn lifeguard stands or assembling vibrant still lifes, his practice moves instinctively between painting, drawing, and collage, guided less by reference and more by intuition. Growing up on Long Island and now working in Ohio, Robert channels memory, material, and emotion into structures that feel both familiar and entirely his own.

We've Restocked on our G.F Smith Papers!!

The G.F Smith challenge pack includes 30 coloured sheets from the G.F Smith Colorplan range. Your challenge is simply to create a collage with them. It could be a landscape, still life, portrait, abstract or something else. There’s only one rule – you can only use the Colorplan papers to create your collage.

Tom Etherington’s path into book cover design began with eagerly refreshing the Penguin Books jobs page – patience that paid off when he finally landed his dream role. Having worked on a plethora of well known books and as a designer for some well know magazines, Tom also creates his own personal collaborative collages and champions creativity that doesn’t take itself too seriously, reminding us that the best
work often comes from simply enjoying the process.
