We had a great time this week, chatting with Grant who goes by the handle . He's been spearfishing in Africa for freshwater fish like Talapia amongst crocs and hippos, but equally he has some fantastic stories about his diving in the UK.

Buddies play the biggest role in the Spearfishing scene. Not only from a safety aspect, but more so a social and supportive role.

We had difficulties with our boat, so Ben kindly offered us a space on his, and in return, we offered to show them some spots (luckily, there were fish!).

The best part of the Dorset Open Comp for me was having a laugh with these lads and sharing the enjoyment of being out in a beautiful location. In the end, we did well as a boat and got a fair few fish on board! 🙌🐟

We're super proud to announce our participation in the Start Point Open Day, it's all in aid of supporting Team GB with getting to the Worlds in Spain this year.

The Spearo Hangout crew got invited down to vobster for the day to dive with David Mellor .

It's been a while since we've all dived deep and with lots of enthusiasm we got ourselves amped up. We started by testing our EQ and with some tips and adjustments made by David we were all EQ'ing well.

So we hopped into the water and started warm up diving to kick in our dive reflexes. After which we then started our deeper dives. We all managed the get past the 20m mark and Ben setting a new PB of 25m!

We then decided to have some fun on the wrecks doing the swim throughs of the plane and crushers works (vids coming soon!).

We changed and then had some grub whilst David de-briefed us and taught us some additional info.

If you're thinking of booking onto a course I highly recommend you do it with David. He has a great way of putting things into an easy and concise manner plus his great sense of humour is awesome. He oozes knowledge and I wish we had more days with him as I know we'd be down even deeper.

We will 100% be booking in with David to complete our Aida level 3. We wouldn't want to do it elsewhere!

Tassie Scallops

Nothing quite like hopping into the ocean and grabbing yourself a fat feed of scallops.

These guys are honestly my favourite eating food in the ocean. There were some really solid scallops here with the biggest being a whopping 14cm! I almost managed to get 4 Queen Scallops too which is always a nice treat.

Mon and I struggled to find anything in the shallower water as well as being constantly thrown off by scallop looking oysters.

But as soon as we started diving deeper 14 - 21m we really hit the scallop patches and managed to bag ourselves this feed. Cant wait to cook these fellas up.

Freediving for scallops in Tassie, braving cold water, bad vis and great whites… worth it!

Episode 27 - This week we have two guys on from across the pond, to talk about all things fresh water spearfishing and their experiences with obtaining world record fish.

Brett Leable and Jake Lords are both on the board for the NFSA association and are currently organising the Worlds Freshwater Tournament in Lake Powell.

They both hold world record fish and spear in fresh and salt water, Brett has been diving and spearing since you had to use dial up for the Internet and knows a thing or two, he has affectionately named Jake Lords "KOF" (King of Freshwater), because Jake holds two world record fresh water fish shot on spearguns. He is leading the way in fresh water spearfishing over in the states and has an hilarious Instagram page, check it out!
