Wondering whether to post over the weekend?

The answer depends on your business and your audience. Ask yourself these questions:

Are your ideal customers mostly using Instagram at the weekend?

Have you experienced good reach and engagement during weekends previously?

What types of content do you like to engage with over the weekend?

Are you willing to respond to comments during the weekend?

Is it likely to negatively impact your business if you don’t post over the weekend?

If you do decide that posting at weekends will benefit your business, but you don’t want to spend time creating content then, consider pre-scheduling your content in the app or via Meta Business Suite for free. You don’t need to use paid for apps.

As for responding to comments, don’t feel you have to respond immediately. Set aside 10 minutes per day to reply to all comments and messages when it’s convenient for you.

If you’re not sure whether your audience is likely to be using Instagram over the weekend, test it out. Plan some posts at different points during weekends for a few weeks then check your insights in your Professional Dashboard to see how that content has performed.

I tend not to post much over the weekend. If I do, it’s usually light-hearted or short content that my audience can consume quickly rather than heavy tutorials or explanations. Stories are also good to use over the weekend as these are viewed by your followers who may already know you well and are more likely to engage.

Get your content planned for November with my list of awareness campaigns and calendar dates.

I’m not sure how that happened but half term is over and November has arrived. Like it or not, Christmas will be here before we know it and festive content will be filling our feeds over the next couple of months. 🎄

Life gets very hectic at this time of year so take a look through this list and make a note of anything you could use for content inspiration. Even if you don’t have time to batch create content or don’t like to, having a rough plan for your month’s content will really help you to stay on track throughout the month.

Black Friday will feature heavily this month as it seems to have become a month long event now! If you’re not a fan of Black Friday, .co ‘s lovely alternative, Colour Friday, celebrates small businesses and is a great opportunity for you to show off your business. Tell your story and remind people who you are, what you do and why they should buy from you. 🌈

I’ve really enjoyed the Halloween and bonfire night celebrations and I’m getting excited for Christmas now. Just the small matter of both of my daughters’ birthdays to deal with first. Are you feeling ready for Christmas content yet? 🎅🏻

Not sure what content to create for your business? Start by looking at your insights. 📈

If you’re not already checking your insights regularly, now’s the time to start. They’re full of useful information like which types of content is reaching the most accounts and which types are being engaged with most. Take a look through my slides to find out which stats to focus on.

It’s worth noting that what content is best to create, depends on your goals. Do you want to grow your following and therefore reaching non-followers is going to be important? Or do you want to build connections with your current followers in order to turn them into clients? If so, you’ll want to increase engagement.

Remember to save this post to come back to later. Insights can be difficult to navigate if you aren’t used to looking at them.

👻 This is preventing your account growth and lowering your enegagement

What is posting and ghosting? It’s when you simply post and walk.🚶

The aim of posting should be to reach your followers and non-followers and encourage engagement. Engagement signals to the algorithm that your content is valuable which leads it to be pushed out to more people.

If you’re not replying to comments and engaging with other accounts regularly, especially before and after posting, you’re missing out on an opportunity to boost your reach and engagement. Not only that, replying to every comment you receive will DOUBLE the engagement on your post as well showing your audience that you will take the time to reply to them meaning they’re more likely to comment in future.

⭐️ To give your posts the best chance of being seen and engage with make sure you spend time engaging with both followers and non-followers before and after posting and aim to reply to comments the same day. We can’t be expected to be on the app 24/7 and I wouldn’t recommend that, but putting time aside to spend on focussed engagement when your posts go out is a great use of your time.

Have you been posting and ghosting? I see comments left unanswered in posts every day - it’s such a wasted opportunity.

Get your October content sorted! 👻 🎃 🍂

At this time of year things start to get pretty hectic both socially and for most business owners in the preparation for Christmas. If you're trying to grow your following and increase the visibility of your business you won't want to let your posting consistency slip.

In this month's bumper edition I've put together a list of 46 ideas for you, including loads of awareness campaigns and days from food to health and everything in between. Remember to choose ones that best align with your business, values and audience.

Do we have anything in common? Let me know. I’ve gone really deep here. I’m sure many of you didn’t know most of these facts about me. Am I right?

I love to find out more about the person behind a brand. We’re all inherently nosey aren’t we? 😂

But that’s not why I created this post. Revealing more about ourselves helps to build connection with our audience. Finding out we have interests or experiences in common with those we connect with on social media, naturally draws us closer to them and may even contribute to us wanting to work with or collaborate with them. I’m sure you’ve heard it many times before…people buy from people.

I’ve been having this conversation with clients a lot recently. I always encourage business owners to share more about them and their business, to tell their story and be authentic. We’re all unique and we should sue that to our advantage, not shy away from it.

Sharing an embarrassing photo of me with shows my goofy/awkward side. I was so drunk he said I scared him! I’m actually not a scary person at all, I’m an introvert. I blame the alcohol! 🤪

If you haven’t shared some facts about you with your audience why not do a post or reel this week doing just that. Top tip: Carousels like this one with overlay text added in the app are performing really well right now.

Marketing your business on Instagram can be such a time suck, right? This tip will save you so much time. If you’re not already re-sharing and re-purposing content now’s the time to start.

Remember to choose content which has performed well in the past as this is a good indicator that your audience found it valuable. Check your insights to find out which content received the highest engagement.

This way of creating content will save you so much time. You've already done the leg work by creating the original content so make it work harder for you. 🙌🏼

Boost your views with this trick 🪄

I’m going to start by saying it’s important to focus the majority of your content on your products and services, but it doesn’t hurt to weave in some entertaining and relatable content every now and again.

When I returned from holiday my reach and engagement had dipped a little, as expected after a 10 day break. So, I created a reel that I knew would resonate with my audience as well as helping me reach non-followers.

It worked! This reel has had well over 50% more views than any of my recent reels. It’s also had many comments and shares and I’ve received new followers too. 🙌🏼

It’s worth noting, although the audio was trending it had already had hundreds of thousands of uses so it wasn’t a strategic choice, it just fitted with the reel.

This reel was created with the remix feature. I’m you can do this by tapping the 3 dots top right (or bottom right depending on the view) of a reel you like and selecting ‘remix’ (as long as the creator hasn’t turned off this option). You can then add your own on screen text, audio and caption to personalise it.

When was the last time you updated your story highlights? (Assuming you have some, which you definitely should.)

When a non-follower lands on your profile you want them to be able to quickly understand what your business is about and decide whether they should follow you. Attention spans are short, so you have a matter of seconds to persuade someone to follow you. ⏰

If you can’t quite see it in slide 4 of my carousel, there are 50 plus stories in that highlight category alone which is way more than most people will watch!

Your story highlights are a great way to showcase your business and what you have to offer. Some ideas for story highlights categories:
