🤯 Unsure where to start with your social media content following your summer break? Why not begin with a summer photo dump?

Using the new carousel text feature it’s really quick and easy to create a photo dump post and your audience will no doubt love to see what you’ve been up to.

Remember, most of us can now add up to 20 images or videos in carousels so you won’t have to spend ages trying to reduce your favourite pics to 10. 😃

Give this a try and maybe ask your audience what they’ve been up to to get a conversation going in the comments.

I had lots of comments on my stories while I was in Switzerland from people saying they never realised how beautiful it was. I was blown away too. I’d highly recommend a trip there if you haven’t been. There’s so much to see and it’s very family-friendly too - just a tad expensive to eat out and do activities but we did it on a fairly tight budget and still managed to see everything we wanted to.🇨🇭

Have you had a busy summer? Have you travelled anywhere interesting or unusual?

Have you lost your social media mojo after the summer break? 😰

👋🏻 I'm back from my holiday and here with lots of content ideas to help you get back on track. Now that September is here and the kids will soon be back to school, it's a great time to regain clarity and focus for your business. A good way to start is by planning your social media content, especially if you took a well-earned rest over the summer.

I've got 32 content ideas to help you, including awareness campaigns, events and some additional ideas for your September content and beyond. Don't feel the need to use them all, pick those most relevant to your business and those your audience are most likely to resonate and engage with.

🎥 If you'd like to up your Instagram game, I'm running a Reels Foundations workshop on 16th September in Milton-under-Wychwood. Reels are a great way to reach a wider audience and increase your following but if you're confident creating them they can be really time consuming and ineffective. Full details of the workshop can be found in my link in bio.

👩🏻‍💻 If you need some more general help with Instagram marketing, I'm also running my popular Instagram for Business workshop in Coventry on 26th September (see link in bio). If you'd like to attend an Instagram for Business workshop in the Cotswolds, comment below and I'll add you to my waitlist so you'll be the first to find out when I set another date.

Happy content creating!

I’m so excited to hold my first Reels Foundations Workshop next month. I’m returning to Rise & Flour Artisan Sourdough Bakery & Cafe in Milton-Under-Wychwood which has a great space for hosting small group workshops and having delicious food and drinks available is an added bonus! ☕️ 🥐

This workshop is designed for anyone marketing a business on Instagram who would like to reach a wider audience and grow their following in order to increase sales. A basic knowledge of reels will be beneficial.

The workshop will be slow-paced, with plenty of opportunity to practice as we go along. I will cover:

🎥 Best practices

🎥 Editing tips

🎥 How to create engaging reels

🎥 Mastering talking to camera

🎥 Trending audios

🎥 Reel covers

🎥 Templates

🎥 Simple transitions

🎥 Content ideas

and more…

You will then have the opportunity to create a short reel using the skills you’ve learnt before we end with a Q&A session to answer any questions you have.

There are 8 spaces available to ensure I can provide one-to-one assistance to all attendees. A couple of tickets have already been sold so if you’re interested in attending I recommend booking quickly. Tickets cost £40 plus £2 booking fee and can be purchased via the link below where you will also find full details of the workshop and venue. 🎟️

18/08/2024

August is always a quieter month with lots of people away on their summer holidays and it can be difficult as a business owner when you’re wanting to keep up the momentum.

If you’ve been experiencing dire reach and engagement over the past couple of weeks, it’s worth noting that there have apparently been a number of issues at Instagram HQ, as well as algorithm changes and plenty of platform updates, which have probably contributed to this. Fingers crossed September will see a return to normal levels. 🤞🏼

Check out my 5 tips in the slides to help you stay motivated and create content which is most likely to be engaged with.

Remember to only share personal content that you felt comfortable sharing. Some people feel more comfortable sharing this in stories rather than on the grid. Do what works best for you. Behind the scenes footage of your business, a photo dump from your holiday, a great day out with your kids or a personal achievement is all relatable content that can help to build connections - and often receives a lot of engagement too.

My bonus tip is to remember to keep engaging, both with your audience and new accounts. Commenting on and sharing others’ content that resonates with you or is relevant to your business, helps remind other accounts that you and your business exist and usually encourages them to check out your profile and recent content.

Are there any tips here you’re going to try? Just a few more weeks to go. Hang in there. We can do it!💪🏼

You’re either going to LOVE or HATE this update.

The latest Instagram update… you can now view the number of likes, comments and shares a post or reel has received underneath it.

There are advantages and disadvantages to this. Here’s my thoughts:

✔️ We can now see the number of shares a post has received which is new to UK accounts

✔️ It’s a quicker way to see the engagement our content has received, rather than having to view our insights

✔️ It’s a great way to gauge which content users are engaging with most

✔️ Being able to see the number of shares means we can easily find out which content is most likely to be shared and use that as inspiration seeing as shares are currently the most important metric

❌ You may not be happy for others to see this information about your posts, especially if your account is in its infancy or you aren’t achieving the engagement you’d like

❌ We may unconsciously judge the quality of content by the amount of engagement it has received

If you haven’t yet got this update, it will be coming soon. I’d love to know your thoughts on this. Do you think this is a useful update or could it negatively impact smaller accounts?

You need to know about these updates ⬇️

There have been a lot of updates recently from Instagram. These are 3 I think you should know about as they can impact your content creation and even make your life easier!

🎞️ Firstly, you can now add up to 20 images or videos to carousels. Until now you could only add 10. If you’ve been struggling to fit everything you want into 10 slides then this is great news for you. Just be aware that sharing too much information in posts could be overwhelming for your audience. I think this will be more useful for images than for graphics with a lot of text. Consider the length of time needed to read chunks of text.

🔤 You can now add text and images to single posts or carousels in the app. I created this reel ising this feature. All text on the slides were added in the app rather than in Canva where the phone screen images were created. This could be a time saver if you’re short on time. You can select the same fonts that are available in stories and change the colour too so this is a very handy feature!

◼️ Finally, it’s time to stop posting square images and graphics as Instagram is testing portrait grids once again. already has this feature on her phone but not on her desktop. It’s looking very likely this will be rolled out to all accounts and if you’re not using 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio) for your posts now is the time to start doing so. If you don’t, your square posts could be stretched to fit the portrait grid or have black borders and won’t look great.

Do you have these features yet and have you used them? Let me know what you think.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the heatwave if you’re in England. We’re off to London on Sunday and it’s set to be a scorcher, wish me luck! 🥵

It's the last week of the school term here and I'm sure for many of you too. If you're frantically trying to get through your to do list before the summer break begins (you're not alone), here are some simple content prompts for you this week, alongside the awareness days and themes listed below 👇🏼

★ Tell your audience when your services are available over the summer break. Are you taking time off? Will it be business as usual?

★ Share news of what's coming up over the summer or early autumn in your business.

★ Give your reflections on the first half of the year in your business. Have you had any big successes or downfalls? It doesn't all have to be positive. Keeping it reel can really help build a connection with your audience.

★ Ask your audience what they'd like to see from your business in the coming months. This could help you in your planning. It can be really helpful to know what your ideal clients value most.

I hope these are helpful. Please do share them to help other small business owners too.

A reminder of awareness campaigns, events and diary dates to inspire your content this week. It seems a bit of a joke that it's National Picnic month given the weather we've been having lately. Let's hope it improves in time for the summer holidays!

Just two more weeks of school for us. It's going to be a super busy couple of weeks with my next workshop on Tuesday and quite a few client meetings plus lots of school events. 😵‍💫 How's your July looking?

When was the last time you requested a review from a client? 🤔

Whilst running a Power Hour with a client this week I noticed that they hadn't been sharing any client reviews on their Instagram account. I asked whether they regularly requested reviews from clients and the answer was ‘no’. They said they often received a handwritten card with lovely feedback though.

This got me thinking that small business owners, service business owners in particular, need reminding to request reviews from clients. Products tend to receive more reviews from customers than services do.

Reviews are so important, not only so you know whether your service is proving valuable but also to enable you to share positive feedback with potential clients, helping build trust and giving credibility to yourself and your business - an important step in eventually securing sales.

Take a look through these slides and ask yourself the 3 questions. Are you already taking these steps or do you need to make changes? Let me know in the comments. 👇🏼

Hello July - we're officially into the second half of the year! 😱

I've gathered 42 ideas to inspire your content this month, including awareness campaigns, local and nationwide events and some prompts you may like to use too.

Mixing up your content keep it fresh and interesting for your audience. Have you tried asking what they'd like to see from you? It's also great to ask their opinions to get them involved and reinforce that sense of community.

Remember, at this time of year it's natural for engagement to drop off a bit as people are outdoors enjoying the warmer weather and off on holiday. Will you be posting throughout the summer or taking some time off? Maybe you'll share a few personal highlights with your followers to keep them up to date on what you're up to through the summer holidays?

There's no right or wrong way to do it, do whatever feels right for you. If you've been following me for a while you'll know that I occasionally share some personal content, mostly in my stories. I find that parents tend to engage with my content featuring my daughters. It's a nice way to connect with my followers.

Have a great start to your week.

It’s World Social Media Day which seemed like the perfect time to remind you about my upcoming workshop on 9th July. 👆🏼

My first workshop was a sell out and due to popular demand I’ve managed to squeeze in another before the summer break. I have just 7 tickets left and I’d love you to come along!

I know many small business owners struggle to successfully manage their Instagram marketing on top of the many other aspects of their business. Keeping up with the constant new features, trends and advice as well as trying to grow your following, reach your ideal customer, come up with content ideas and post consistently can seem a little daunting! 🤯

I’ve created this workshop to help simplify Instagram marketing for you by teaching you the foundations in a relaxed environment, where you’re able to ask questions as we go along and pick up your phone to try out what you’ve learnt. Swipe left to find out what will be covered and what the attendees said.

Tickets are just £25 and are available via my link in bio. There are just 7 tickets left. If you have any questions comment below or drop me a dm.

☀️ Now summer’s finally arrived it gets even harder to make time to plan content - or at least that’s what I find. Making time in between summer fairs, school events and friend and family gatherings is tough!

If this sounds familiar my reminder of this week’s diary dates might give you a helping hand. This week we’ve got:
🎟️ Glastonbury
🚴🏾 Tour de France and Euro 2024
🕶️ International Sunglasses Day (who knew that was a thing?)
🧘 Wellbeing Week
🌈 London Pride
📱 World Social Media Day

If you need more ideas I’m taking part in the Reset with Reels Challenge by this week. Martha has created a whole week of prompts for engaging reels to help you reach new followers and grow your account. Head to her profile to join. We pray is day 1 so it’s not too late.

Found this helpful? Make sure you save for later.

With so many diary dates this week I couldn't not send out a reminder! At this time of year, when there are so many events filling your time outside of your business, creating content can often fall to the bottom of the pile. That's why quick and easy content ideas are a god-send!

Take a look and see which ones work for your business then make some notes on how you will use them in your content this week. Even better, create a couple of posts right now and get ahead for the week. Try not to overthink it. Often the quickest content gets the best results. 🚀

Which ones will you use this week? Let me know.👇🏼

Happy content creating!

Did you know having lots of spam or bot followers can have a negative impact on your account? 😱

Just as it's important to only follow accounts that are relevant for your business, it's important that your followers are relevant too. You ideally want followers who are your ideal client and are likely to value your content and engage with it. Having a following of spam, bot or even inactive accounts means your engagement rate will inevitably be low and it does nothing for the credibility of your account.

It's good practice to have a clean up of your followers regularly and Instagram now makes this really easy by flagging up accounts for review. Follow the instructions in my carousel to find out how to quickly remove unwanted followers.

It may feel hard to remove followers and lower your follower count but try not to get hung up on this. It's more important to have genuine, engaged followers. 🥰

It's also a good idea to check your following occasionally to make sure you are only following relevant and active accounts. There may be businesses who have closed for example, or accounts you have followed but since realised they aren't relevant to your business.

Do you have a large number of accounts flagged for review? I removed about 40 followers yesterday. If you have a very large following you will most likely have a lot more than that.

Save this post to come back to later if you don't have time to action this now.

And just like that, June has arrived!

I've put together 50 ideas to inspire your social media content for your service-based business this month. There are plenty of awareness campaigns and events taking place in June. You'll also find a list of additional ideas at the end. As always, take a look through and choose those most relevant to you and your business and those which are most likely to resonate with your audience.

Make sure you save this list to refer back to.

Don’t make these mistakes‼️

Like it or not, prioritising aesthetics is a thing of the past. Instagram has moved on and if you don’t move with the times you and your business will get left behind. 💨

Swipe through my carousel to find out what you should prioritise now in order to stand out amongst the 2.4 billion IG users, grow your account and eventually, increase sales. 💰

Remember:

1. the quality of your content is far more important than aesthetics

2. don’t jump straight into sales content before you’ve educated your audience on the details of your service and how it will benefit them.

Are you already doing all of these or have you fallen into the traps? Let me know in the comments. 👇🏼

Happy Bank Holiday Monday! 🙌🏼

Hopefully you're getting some well-earned rest today if but you're already wondering what to post this week, I'm here to help. If you've got kids on half-term this week you might be short on time so I've got some simple content ideas for service-based businesses that won't take long to put together:

📝 Sharing social proof regularly is really important to give your business credibility and encourage your followers to convert into clients so share some recent testimonials/reviews this week. If you aren't regularly requesting and saving testimonials, now's the time to start.

🌟 As we come to the end of May, now is a good time to reflect on the past month. Why not share a roundup of your highlights this month. These could be solely business-related or a mixture of personal and business highlights (or even include some lows too).

💡 Have you got any tips for keeping the kids occupied over half-term or to help parents manage the juggle - especially as the weather is looking a bit wet? Any ideas for local days out or fun events?

👨‍👦‍👦 Finally, don't forget Father's Day is approaching on 16th June. Do you have any offers to share, or creative gift ideas?

Whether it's half-term or business as usual for you this week, I hope you have a great end to the month. I'll be dipping in and out as I'll be spending time with my daughters in the second half of the week. I'm hoping it won't rain all week! 🤞🏻

Happy Sunny Monday ☀️

Let's get the week off to a great start by getting our content planned. In my post last night I gave some tips on what to do when your reach and engagement are suffering (which naturally happens when the weather is great as your audience are spending less time on Instagram!). If you haven’t seen it, go and check it out.

Another way of improving the performance of your content is to test new things. Try something you've never done before such as going live, posting a relatable meme, sharing some interesting facts about you or your business or trying a new type of content - maybe jump on reels trends?! By trying something new you're more likely to reach new accounts and draw attention. Let me know if you're planning to give something a try. Tag me so I can show support. 🙌🏼

There are also lots of events and awareness days this week to make use of - Chelsea Flower Show is a big one starting tomorrow and the FA Cup Final takes place next weekend. Think about what your audience are likely to enjoy and engage with.

Good luck

If you’re feeling disheartened that your content isn’t being seen by many people right now, consider that after a long, wet winter most people are out enjoying the beautiful weather we’re finally getting. It’s only natural that less people are scrolling the feed.

Over the summer months people’s habits change so it’s important to adjust your posting schedule accordingly. Here’s what you can do:

⏰ Test posting at different times of the day as well as different days. Think about your own habits and when you’re spending most time online

👀 Take a look at competitor’s posts and notice how much engagement they’re getting and what times and day’s they’re posting

🌧️ Prepare content in advance and be ready to post when the weather turns. You can guarantee your audience will be more active on Instagram if the weather’s bad

🧘‍♀️ Try to relax and accept that reach and engagement will fluctuate over the next few months. Take note of your audience’s behaviours over the next few weeks plan posting around them.

📊 Check your Professional Dashboard over the coming weeks to find out which days and times your audience is most active

😎 Don’t give up! Keep engaging with your followers and new accounts, showing up in stories and encouraging engagement with polls, questions and by sharing your fun activities in the sun

Let me know how you’ve been finding reach and engagement on your account over the past couple of weeks.👇🏼
