Hi everyone,

We've received a few questions about the hay bales in the back fields at Ockwells Park, near Thrift Wood. These bales are collected annually to maintain the habitat. They aren't commercially valuable, so they're used as simple fertiliser.

Unfortunately, wet weather has delayed their removal, as tractors can't access the area. A solution is in progress, but it's not ready yet.

Please report any suspicious activity with the bales. We're working to resolve this ASAP.

Sorry Laxton Green! But well done on your recent win in objecting to daft development.

Nando’s opening in Maidenhead town centre?

We've all seen that Nando's have confirmed they're opening a new restaurant at The Bishop Centre, but could they be opening one in Maidenhead town centre?

A building control application has been recently submitted to the council for 'Internal fit out of shell unit including new partitions, ceilings, joinery, plumbing and associated M and E services to form a new Nando restaurant.' In one of the units at One Maidenhead!

Works to introduce parking restrictions on one side of the entrance to St Chads Close (Highfield Road end) have been delayed due to difficulties with the contractors.

We are chasing this now in order to complete the works and get the restrictions (active only during school drop off/pick up) active in order to increase safety in the area.

Again, thank you to residents that raised their concerns with the delay.

Recently a local resident highlighted that a lamppost on the corner that connects Wessex Way and Cox Green Road has been missing for almost a decade. We lost the lamp when a car struck the column and since we’ve had a dark patch on a popular path for school children walking home via the Cox Green Road underpass.

We’re pleased to say that this column is finally due to be replaced, hopefully within the next month (subject to availability of materials) and will be fitted with a LED lamp providing us with maximum light, minimal impact on the environment!

Remember that any issues with services in the area can be reported on the RBWM Report It portal but if you have any issues, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Please be aware that the Civic Amenity site in Vicus Way will be closed tomorrow while work is undertaken to replace the steps used to access the recycling and waste containers at the top site.

It may be possible to reopen the site in the afternoon. The Household Waste and Recycling Centre, where garden waste and wood can be disposed of, will remain open. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We were recently welcomed by Cox Green School for a Q&A with their Year 9 pupils.

This was part of a wider piece of work looking at the role of Government in society. A selection of the School Council had a number of questions for us about crime, encouraging more shops to the area and what they do with their ‘spare’ time.

It was a great experience, the pupils were brilliant with their line of questions and showed that they care deeply about key issues in Maidenhead.

There have been a number of residents who have expressed a desire to volunteer their time and effort to enhance some green spaces in Cox Green with some landscaping and wild flower.

If you are interested in helping, or have a suggestion for somewhere that could use some TLC then please get in touch.

25/10/2023

A number of residents have been in touch close to the many schools in the area to raise concerns about cars parking on pavements and causing issues in the mornings and at pick up.

This is a tricky situation given that the needs of parents, residents, schools, and children all need to be considered. There is no one solution and we are beginning their work to engage with the local schools, speaking with the Parish Council, and engaging with residents to start to map out a way forward.

Please contact us with any feedback, concerns, or ideas you have on this.

We were pleased to see Planning Officers refuse permission for a planning proposal on Laxton Green last month.

The proposal, which aimed to squeeze two houses onto a small piece of green space, received dozens of objections from local residents. We spent time with residents to help guide them on the process and advise them on objectionable areas.

Work now moves towards what measures can be put in place to deter future speculative proposals from developers in the future.

We were delighted to select a family in Haynes Green with the coveted Garden in Bloom award; a programme that recognises residents brightening our streets with vibrant floral displays.

This year's winners were selected given their clear commitment to not only visually brightening our streets but also providing a rich, diverse environment for those insects that rely on pollinators.

Second place went to a family in Lillibrooke Crescent.

Before the election we made it clear that we were keen to improve road safety, and promote active travel routes, along Highfield Lane.

With one stretch of road servicing four schools and two nurseries, mornings can be particularly fraught. We're in conversation now with the Parish Council and the Borough to look at what is possible in the short, medium and long term to ease traffic, improve safety and give residents confidence to use a variety of transport modes during the rush hour.

Broadway Car Park Update.

Years of neglect of Broadway car park have now made it unusable and unsafe. After months of prevaricating by the previous administration, the Lib Dems have made sure the decision has been brought forward to demolish the car park and then it is hoped that it can be used as a temporary surface car park.

Meanwhile there are plenty of spaces available at Hines Meadow/Sainsburys car park and we are looking at ways to improve the car park.

We're aware of a number of concerns along the Woodlands Park Road, between The Points roundabout and Woodlands Park Avenue, where the shrubs and hedges are eating into the pavement making it difficult for residents to use them and feel safe alongside the busy road.

We're working with the Borough to tackle this as well as improve areas of significant concern e.g. corner opposite Ockwells Road entrance.

A quick update (just over) a month into our new roles.

The first thing to note is the number of concerns raised about overgrown grass verges and green areas. This has caused problems at junctions with visibility and left some areas unusable. While the recent weather has been a factor in rapid growth this should not be happening.

This is a Borough-wide issue and has been raised to the highest possible level to look at the performance related to this contracted service. Teams are out now catching up with jobs and work is going into looking at how this can be prevented from happening again. In the meantime, if there are specific areas that need attention please use the RBWM Report It tool to put that straight to the Officers responsible.

https://www.rbwm.gov.uk/home/transport-and-streets/report-problem-grass-cutting

Meanwhile, last week there was an Extraordinary Council Meeting (in other words, outside of the usual calendar of meetings). The reason it was needed was there were three items that needed council approval within a set timeframe.

1. Approval of some senior appointments at RBWM.

2. Acceptance of the Datchet Neighbourhood Plan. A resident-driven document that helps shape planning decisions with the local community input. The Cox Green Parish Council is keen/in the process of pulling together one of these for our community which we're keen to support. Watch out for more on this.

3. Approval of additional education budget (externally sourced) that has become available including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Alternative Provision (AP) budgets. Within that, there is set to be additional provision provided at Cox Green from September '25 and access improvements to Manor Green School this summer. We know that access to Manor Green is of interest to a number of residents in the area given the traffic issues there in the mornings so we will keep a close eye on this and keep you all up to date.

In the meantime if you have any concerns you can message us here or email [email protected] or [email protected]. Alternatively you can find our Cllr emails on the RBWM website.

We are responsible for cutting grass on highway verges, in council-owned parks and cemeteries and on our own properties. The majority of grass verges adjacent to roads are within the public highway and therefore come under our responsibility as highway authority. We are required to keep verges safe....

On Saturday 10th June there will be a World Cafe event at the Cox Green Community Centre between 11.30 and 13.30.

The event is jointly run by RBWM and NHS Frimley and is aimed at giving residents an opportunity to speak to one of the trained facilitators about any concerns and to learn more about the community-led solutions available.

If you are free do go down and check it out.

Hello folks.

We thought it would be useful to give you an update as we approach three weeks since the local elections. A key focus for us was to ensure that we keep residents up-to-speed with developments and the various activities that shape how RBWM runs and our role as Councillors.

Since the election, it's been a whistle-stop tour of induction sessions. These cover important areas like codes of conduct, planning, various committees etc. with each session mapping out expectations as well as the way each of the different groups, processes and systems work. We also got our RBWM email addresses etc.

It really is like starting a new job.

But we've also been busy following up on specific resident concerns during the election campaign as well as the new queries that have come in since the election. We are working as hard and quickly as we can to get to the right part of RBWM to follow up on these. The best way to contact us about specific issues is via our RBWM contact details which can be found here.

Or you can drop us a direct message on this page. We do keep an eye on the various community message boards as well but bear with us as they can be harder to spot.

Thanks to everyone that popped up a poster for us. It made a huge difference to the campaign. People saw it and were motivated for change.

So thank you.

You can of course take them down now. We’ve been out and collected most of the garden posts and will get the rest shortly.

Thanks again!

We did it!

Last night the people of Cox Green went to the polling station and backed us to represent them as part of a new Liberal Democrat-led Council.

One moment we were going door to door in the build-up to the election, the next we were on Eton Bridge with Lib Dem leader Ed Davey in front of the national media.

Thank you to our volunteers who help us deliver our regular newsletters and helped us throughout the election (we really couldn't have done it without you). Thank you to those that have sent us so many positive messages prior to, during and since the election yesterday. And thank you to all the people that voted for us yesterday. It really does mean the world to us.

As you can imagine there is a lot for us to get done in a very short time as we settle into our new roles so please bear with us and keep an eye on this page for updates.

In the meantime though we plan to spend the long weekend recharging and spending time with our family after a gruelling campaign.

Speak soon. And thank you.
