Jean has been collecting seeds from an inherited Daphne , watch this space ! First soak in warm water for a day before surface sowing , just press. lightly into the compost which has been previously watered. To be placed in an unheated propagator with fingers crossed .

Pat writes: To be honest, the bottom of our garden is a bit of a jungle. I spent a few hours down there yesterday trying to tidy it up. And, hidden amongst the brambles and weeds, I found this perfect little nest.

This Saturday will see me at Leigh Country Fair doing a Q and A with Susy Radio, a local station for The Redhill/ Reigate area but it covers Horsham too !

Jean writes: this is African Queen, one of my giant lilies , such a great colour and scent

I like these as they are too tall for marauding feline visitors !

Pat writes: I think that one of the loveliest things about gardening is the ability to grow plants that instantly take you back to memories of people, sadly no longer with us.

When this rose, for example, blooms in our garden, I’m immediately reminded of my Grandma, who proudly grew them in her little backyard in Margate.

Jean writes: Thank you to everyone who went to St Michael’s Hospice Open Garden yesterday, it was a pleasure to meet a few listeners and chat in the sunshine in this pretty garden , thank you to the team of volunteers , I hope you made lots of money for this worthy cause.

Jean writes: This first time flowering Echinacea is from seed sown in 2022, it has enormous leaves too, seed packet just said LARGE FLOWERED ECHINACEA !!! And it is !

Jean writes.. the first time this has flowered ! Grown from seed it is Francoa sonchifolia native of Chile. Totally hardy here, just needs good drainage .

Pat writes: As you may have heard, Jean invited some of us on the Sunday Gardening team to have a Sunflower competition amongst ourselves.

I may have made a mistake by growing my two in pots, but they are 85cms tall at the moment or almost 3 foot.

To be honest, I think that Jean is going to win this!

Hymenocallis festalis, the Spider lily , but it is not a lily, related to Amaryllis

Jean writes: this is a plant I have not grown for many years, Inarvilliea delavayi, well worth a spot in the garden, common name is hardy Gloxinia
My three plants were very small so have potted them for the first season
