Day 2 update in numbers (we aren’t very good with numbers but we’re giving it a go):

Sixteen children with millions of ideas divided into two production crews. Two directors. Eight main actors and a few keen extras. About eighty back stories for an evil lunch lady’s motivation. Two lead set designers. A hundred and twenty one pieces of props to create. A shortlist of 20+ ideas, narrowed down to two scripts.

And only one day tomorrow to finish every single thing before the Big Production Day (dun dun dun!!!)

We are keeping cool you know (eeek).

And just like that, we are already one day in!

And what a fantastic day it has been: we’ve just met but we’ve already created so much!

We filmed, we edited, we improvised, we created prop food, we’ve acted and discussed our ideas for the final films… it’s been so full on and oh so magical…

I keep replaying today in my head and can’t believe we fit so much in just short 7 hours!

If only you could hear the conversations of the children at our Pilot Junior Filmmakers Camp! The giggles!

I have the widest smile I had in years and I am so grateful to our amazing Woodlands Primary School for all the support and giving us the full access to the building (apologies to all teachers working through half term and stepping over our tripods and props)!…

I am so much hoping our children come up with a story where I get to play an old evil villain lady (that would be my dream!)

Recipe for a mini film for grown ups and children:

1. Stir up some fun with AI Voiceover magic or record one yourself
2. Sprinkle in a bit of Stop Motion excitement
3. Grab a handful of old footage from your previous cool projects - raid your phone archives
4. Film some extra scenes (but make sure to bring an adult if you plan on acrobatics atop kitchen counters and such)
5. Stir, shake, blend, and mix like you're cooking up a fantastical potion
6. Export your creation and watch it over and over until your grin is as big as the widest camera lens in the land*

Here's a sneak peek of our action-packed agenda:

*Monday* kicks off with an 'Icebreaker Extravaganza,' setting the stage for the week with games and bitesize workshops covering scriptwriting, acting, and set design - akin to the chaotic charm of "School of Rock." A full day of hands-on exploration, ensuring your child gets a taste of the many facets of filmmaking.

*Tuesday* unfolds the real magic with deep dive workshops, allowing kids to delve into their passions. Picture a Pokemon battleship saga, a la "Detective Pikachu," crafting props for a Zombie Teacher movie set or creating a stop motion animation opening scene for a Hero drama ‘The Radioactive Gerbils’ (based on true story)…

*Wednesday* is The Mighty Pre-production day: refining scripts, storyboards, and shot lists a process as intricate as "Inception." We will be BUSY. And there might even be a twist..

*Thursday* is The Big Production Day, where a professional camera crew (‘The Truman Show’ anyone?) joins us to be directed by the children and film each scene on a RED camera.

*Friday* marks the start of Post Production, creating rough assemblies of films to be finished in the following two weeks. We wrap the week with games and a mini-awards ceremony.

Tickets are disappearing faster than Keyser Söze in ‘The Usual Suspects’, so please act swiftly!

As working parents, we know how busy everyone was just before Christmas!
But now all the presents are unwrapped and Santa's back at the North Pole, we get to look forward to the 2024 fun! Yay!

We believe that every child from any background should have access to all the tech that helps them thrive. But in this day and age there are so many gadgets and social media, it's hard to focus their attention on what matters the most - how to leverage technology and drive their imagination from idea to final masterpiece a meaningful and productive way.
In other words - we'd like to see them stop scrolling and consuming, but start creating (hence our camps are all phone free).
Even though we do teach camera work, editing and so much more, we aim to go beyond filmmaking.
Pilot is about boosting confidence through creative play and growth mindset, but most importantly - mindfulness.
Noticing stories around us and within us.
Noticing stories we tell to ourselves and the world.

We can not wait to see the final movies. x

Our Film Camp and future workshops are designed to spark creative curiosity in children, allow them access to real life skills and equip them with future job opportunities, but how lovely that would be if this was accessible to all children in all schools all year round?...

From 2010 to 2019 the creative industries grew more than one and a half times faster than the wider economy, to be worth more than £115bn, making up around one in eight businesses, and accounting for 7.1% of all UK jobs.

Yet every year we find it harder to recruit the diversity of talent we need due to a gradual reduction in funding of art, design and technology subjects in UK state schools since 2010. This restricts not only the potential talent pool, but also the diversity of our teams. An industry like ours depends on diversity of background, perspective, and ideas.

We believe this trend has four causes:

* Reduction in funding of arts subjects in UK state schools since 2010.
*Lack of recruitment and retention of teachers for arts subjects.
*Changes to qualifications and league tables de-prioritising arts subjects.
*Careers advisers at state schools are too often unaware of opportunities in creative industries – animation, brand strategy, film making, client service, illustration, copywriting and so on – as well as the pathways into them.

To all TN residents and local business owners, I couldn’t recommend enough this wonderful space in the heart of Tunbridge Wells’s

I used OfficeTribe for hotdesking when we had a major renovation in the house, and recently hired the whole space for one of my weekend workshops. I hope to spend more time in there in 2024!

It’s sooo cosy and stylish (Julia is an interior designer is Art Gallery curator in Rye, so it’s ever so elegant and classy), it’s so easy to get to (one office is by the Pantiles and the other one is just opposite the station), people who work there are extremely lovely, it’s dog friendly and the internet is fast!

They now have a video (made by a local videographer Sam Christmas), do take take a look 🙂
