The obligatory Christmas Jumper Day post… 🎄

Just for the record, Aaron assures he wasn’t being bah humbug by showing up today without his festive sweater, he says he was sparing the team the shame of being in a Wolverhampton Wanderers-themed Christmas jumper. 🙈

Apparently, it’s the only one he owns!

Taking time for a cuppa and a breakfast sarnie!

The Newport based team took a today - screens off and phones away.

A chance to catch up on Amy and Mark’s dash to Milan to see Ludovico Einaudi, Liz’s Aston Expressway meltdown, Aaron’s misfortune (depending on how you see it) to miss the opening minutes of the Wolves match and Mel’s mammoth detangling session.

It’s been a fantastically busy few weeks for Be Bold as we welcome a number of new clients and deliver on big projects for our existing client roster.

With December just around the corner, the Be Bold team have been getting into the festive spirit 🎄

Our tiny but perfect Be Bold tree is up and account executive Liz enjoyed making her first festive wreath at the fantastic Towler Shaw Roberts & FBC Manby Bowdler Women in Business networking event earlier this week at Weston Park .

The mince pies will arrive on Monday marking the start of our annual office tradition of sampling the town's best festive pie offerings.

Score cards at the ready!

Excellent morning this week at the Training and Manufacturing Group Expo organised by In-Comm Training & Business Services and sponsored by Be Bold Media’s client, FBC Manby Bowdler.

Lovely to catch-up former colleague and jet-setter photographer Sam Bagnall - swapping the F1 grid to be on duty for the down under Cucumber PR Ltd team before he headed to Vegas.

Perfect match as Be Bold teams up with Panthers

A leading Shropshire PR company has thrown its support behind grassroots football for girls by sponsoring an up-and-coming youth team.

Be Bold Media has helped to fund new equipment and kit for the Newport Girls Under 12 Panthers team, which trains at Harper Adams University, opposite the company’s base at the Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub.

Managing director Amy Bould said: “This sponsorship opportunity was a perfect match for us. Aside from the fact that we are all a bit football mad at Be Bold, the team train on a weekly basis just across the road from our office.”

“It’s always a privilege to be able to support community organisations and sports teams and Newport Girls is no exception.

“With girls’ football really gaining momentum due to the inspiration and success of our national Lionesses team, we are really excited to be supporting the next generation of football talent.

“The value of clubs like Newport Girls to the local community is huge and we wish the team every success this coming season.

“We look forward to watching their progress and will hopefully get to watch a game or two along the way.”
Panthers play in the Shropshire FA Girls League competing against teams from across the county.

Team manager Mark Harden said: “As a small up and coming Newport team we really appreciate the support shown by Be Bold Media. It means we have been able to invest in new equipment and kit for our training and match preparation, which is fantastic.

“Panthers have had a good start to the season and we’re looking forward to progressing up the league table.”

How do you pack out an event with more than 100 people with zero budget?

You get the Be Bold team on it!

As part of our pro bono work to support the construction sector in the region, we once again took on the PR and marketing for the latest Midlands Constructing Excellence - Shropshire (SCE) event at Telford College.

Amy (who couldn’t make it because Vegas was calling!) sits on the committee of SCE and donates the time of the Be Bold team to supporting the organisation with PR, marketing and social media.

Brilliant to work closely again with Shrewsbury Colleges Group’s Corinne Brown, without her organisational skills this event just wouldn’t have happened.

Thanks need to go to the Shropshire Chamber team, McPhillips Wellington Limited, BizEd’s Vicki Ayton and the Constructing Excellence Midlands for pulling out the stops too.

A huge happy 40th birthday to senior account executive Liz Kennedy. 🎂

Showing huge dedication Liz was up at the crack of dawn heading to Leamington Spa for the Wright Hassall LLP Construction Conference.

While supporting our client Sophie Horgan of Horgan Homes, a guest speaker at the conference, we think Liz probably used her birthday as an excuse to grab a few people she only met today for selfies. 🤳 😀

A good day all round as Sophie smashed her speech and we promise that even though Liz was out and about today, we did spoil her and she’s taking some time off work next week to, quite rightly, extend the birthday celebrations. 🎉

Did you know a UK worker will change employer every five years on average?

Well, today marks eight years with Be Bold for head of operations and digital, Mel Boulter. 👏

It's not a surprise – average is not in the Be Bold dictionary. 😆

And it was an excuse to celebrate with homemade cookies – we're expecting a cake of epic proportions in two years' time Mel! 🍰

Busy couple of days in the UK’s second city.

Fantastic to see the investment in regeneration happening and importantly - the social impact proudly being trumpeted on the hoarding at Paradise.

But it’s not just in Birmingham - Amy heard from James Dickens at Wavensmere about the fab work they’re doing in partnership with Down to Earth in Derby and from lots of conversations today it's clear that the importance of legacy in social value is (finally) coming to the fore.

Thanks to Anna Cooper and the Thebusinessdesk.com West Midlands team for another fab property lunch.

Also talking up Brum today were lawyers from across Europe - we collared a few on camera before they headed off to dinner at the start of the EUROJURIS International Congress.

And Amy’s back at the glorious campus of University of Birmingham this morning, thanks to an invite from long-standing client FBC Manby Bowdler LLP to talk about PR approaches in litigation to a room full of legal experts.

Just another busy Be Bold Media day. The city even branded it for us...

Storytelling...

It's what we do day-in and day-out but there's nothing better than when we get to help our clients tell a story that's come full-circle.

Meet retired teacher Patricia de Haan who recently gifted £10,000 to the The Field Studies Council to support its Young Darwin Scholarship.

Why?

Quite simply, because Patricia, who is now 82, wanted to give something back, she wanted to give young people an opportunity. And, we all know that with the right opportunity - great things can happen.

You see Patricia's life-long career as a biology teacher was kick-started by a residential visit to the Field Studies Council's Shrewsbury site when she was in her late teens.

She had a marvellous time and even met some of the UK's most notable conservationists including well known TV broadcaster the late David Bellamy OBE.

She hopes her generosity will now inspire a future generation of biologists and environmentalists.

She said: “When I came to Preston Montford, I studied ‘The Meres and Mosses of Shropshire’ course. Back then this was the equivalent of the Young Darwin Scholarship and I was incredibly fortunate to be gifted the opportunity. It set me off on a wonderful path and I’ve come a long way in my career.

“Now, I want as many other young people as possible who already have an interest and passion for the environment, but perhaps lack the opportunity or finances, to benefit from a similar experience.”

Patricia’s generosity will help fund 11 additional places on the Young Darwin Scholarship programme.

What an inspiration she is 😊

Skills...

It's always good/nice to upskill yourself whether for professional purposes or otherwise. It's good for many reasons - confidence-building, earning potential but often gaining new skills means you can give something back. It's about the feel-good factor and doing your bit!

Be Bold's head of operations Melanie Boulter has been doing just that. She's been learning how to time keep for the Newport & District Swimming Club. To be able to volunteer at gala events, she had to complete an online and practical assessment which she passed with flying colours.

So guess, where she'll be hanging out over the next week or so? That's right, you'll find her poolside armed with clipboard and stopwatch at the joint swim Club Championships for Newport & District, Telford Aqua and Wellington swimming clubs.

Events are due to take place in Wolverhampton and Wellington.

Well done Mel - sports clubs rely heavily on willing volunteers to keep afloat (excuse the pun) and we're certain your timekeeping skills will be spot on.

What new skills have you been learning lately?

X marks the spot...

But unfortunately for Be Bold's Liz Kennedy, she was beaten to it at today's treasure quest hosted by Shropshire charity Community Resource.

It was the first networking event of its kind to be held by the Community Resource team at Wellington's Sunnycroft NT. ☀️

Liz says she got distracted by the wonderful artwork and needlework. We think this says more about what the gorgeous National Trust property has to offer than Liz's treasure hunting and problem solving skills 😉

How you say it matters. And potentially matters even more than actually what you say.

When the Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis, she spoke straight to camera, in a jumper and jeans, sitting on a bench.

This was serious stuff. And her strained face told you as much about how she was feeling as the words she spoke.

But yesterday was very different. The Will Warr produced film, with Kate’s voiceover, gave us an unprecedented glimpse into the family’s summer as they spent time together during her treatment and recovery. And indeed the first real PDAs between the royal couple we’ve seen in a very long while.

There will be a strategy behind this – whether led by the William and Kate or the comms team at Kensington Palace - to tell the story of the next generation of the Royal Family in a completely different way.

It is a distinct deviation from the Palace's conventional PR strategy of releasing updates to the media in the form of a news release and static photograph. Or indeed, a framed statement on an easel in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

This approach is softer, more human and perhaps marks a significant shift in how the Monarchy will look to control their public messaging from here on in.

Video and social media done well is a powerful tool. It has the ability to deliver a controlled message direct to an audience at the right time, with the right strategy and the right words to make that impact.

It also has the power to bring hope and provide comfort to those that need it most. Thank you Kate for your honesty and bravery 💜
