Summer Music Festival, Brean, Saturday 3rd August midday to 7pm
Brean’s historic Grade 2 listed Church St Bridget’s was last year threatened with possible closure. A group of concerned Brean villagers (both churchgoers and not) formed the “Friends of St Bridget’s” to fundraise to ensure closure did not happen, assisted by several local businesses.
After successful music concerts inside the church last year, this year’s events include a ‘Summer Music Festival’, to be held on the ‘Market Field’ at Warren Farm Holiday Park.
Three live acts will perform including: Beat Route Jam performing their immaculate “Sounds of the 60’s - Before and After” concert, Theresa Alexander performing an incredible eclectic range of chart hits from the 60s to present day, and also Six Machine who celebrate world famous artists including Bruno Mars, Adele, Elton John, The Bee Gees, Guns 'n' Roses and The Killers to name but a few. Additionally a DJ will ensure continuity of music throughout the event.
A bar with will be open, plus food and soft drinks from vendors on site.
Tickets are £10 Adults (18 years and over), £5 Children and Free entry for young children (Under 1.2m height).
Ticket numbers are restricted to 500 in total and are available in advance from the Friends via 07733 031564 (Richard) or 07988 601378 (Pat), or on the gate from 11.30am onwards.

1 WEEK TODAY - The Mid Somerset Orchestra presents
GRIEG PIANO CONCERTO Live at Strode Theatre 🎭
Saturday 6th July 7.30pm
Tickets here 🎟 https://www.strodetheatre.org.uk/whats-on/view/grieg-piano-concerto/
Mozart - Overture to The Magic Flute
Grieg - Piano Concerto
Nielsen - Symphony No. 1
The Mid-Somerset Orchestra is delighted to be joined by internationally acclaimed piano soloist Vital Stahievitch* for a performance of Grieg's piano concerto. Written in 1868, the concerto is one of the most well-known in the repertoire and is an enduring feature in the Classic FM Hall of Fame. This will follow an exuberant opening to the concert with the overture to Mozart’s final opera The Magic Flute.
In the second half of the concert we continue the Scandinavian theme, moving from a Norwegian to a Danish composer. Carl Nielsen completed the first of his six symphonies in 1892. It is a very accessible and melodic symphony with a distinctive Danish flavour, and deserves to be performed much more frequently.

Grand Pier NHS tribute
Grand Pier shines a light for essential workers The night sky above Weston-super-Mare’s seafront now has a distinctive blue tint to it as the Grand Pier pays its own tribute to the NHS and other essential workers during the current pandemic. The resort’s top tourist attraction has been transformed into a blue beacon every night as a show of recognition and appreciation to those front-line workers who are spearheading the fight against the Covid-19 virus. The Pier - like many businesses in the hospitality and leisure sector - reluctantly took the decision to close on March 20 in response to Government guidelines in order to help stop the spread of the disease and support social distancing. Over the past few weeks, grateful people across the nation have been showing their appreciation for NHS workers and others by taking part in a round of applause every Thursday night. This has also seen key landmarks - like the London Eye - be bathed in blue light as a show of appreciation. Michelle Michael, Director of the Grand Pier, said: “We wanted to let all the key workers in our area know that we are very aware that they are sacrificing so much in order to keep the rest of us safe, and we can’t express just how grateful we are. “The least we can do is to bathe our pavilion in blue light, so that any of those people carrying out essential roles can see it on their way to and from their work, and will know that their efforts are so appreciated. “But also, we didn’t just want to make this gesture on a Thursday night, when so many people are taking to their doorsteps, gardens and balconies to clap in appreciation. “We have been lighting the Pier up every night, so that those essential front-line workers - many of whom are potentially putting themselves at greater risk - know that we appreciate what they are doing for us all every single day. “It was with great sadness that we had to close the Pier until further notice, but as the Prime Minister said
