44 years ago, this week saw the last MGB roll off the production line and the MG gates at Abingdon were closed for the final time.

We’ve revisited our extensive archives to show you photographs and articles from the lead-up to the closure, including exclusive pictures from the powerful ‘Save MG’ campaign, which united all clubs and MG enthusiasts together and subsequently nearly brought London to a standstill.

For over 50 years the MG Owners’ Club has continued to work tirelessly to ensure our members get the very best out of MG ownership.

You may just spot a young Roche Bentley and Richard Monk (he still has the MGB GT V8) in a few of the pictures!

On this day 96 years ago, the MG M-Type Midget made its debut at the 1928 London Motor Show.

Motoring magazines of the time were full of praise for this MG and sports car history was in the making. Autocar is quoted as saying, "Sixty or sixty-five miles an hour are not adventure but a delight, acceleration is very brisk, altogether an extraordinary fascinating little vehicle."

The M-Type undoubtedly helped make the British sports car and the MG marque popular throughout the world. 3,235 examples were produced.
