"How frightening for my Mother and how lonely she must have felt, as not long after he went seawards, she would have noticed changes in her young body. Sickness in the mornings … a prominent sign and somewhat challenging to control or secrete in a small house. As she was an only child, the household must have been close, and I am sure that my Grandmother must have cringed in fear when she heard my mother vomiting in the morning for the first time. How would she ask my Mother... when her instinct as a Mother already told her what was wrong? How would she tell my Grandfather, possibly already knowing his reaction? What would the neighbours say? Did anybody know already? Who was the Father? Was it that young, tall, red-headed fellow … the one they had tried to get her to stop seeing? Maybe it was he who lived in the nearby town?
I will never know what happened, but my sensitivity allows me to bear conjecture, especially after meeting my grandfather some thirty-five years later. But at the time, it must have only taken a few days of early morning sickness before the tension in the small cottage would have been able to have been sliced with a knife... I see guarded whispers between my mother and grandmother as the truth emerged in those few short and traumatic days... it could not be kept a secret for long, and she was very young. This was, I in 'uteri' becoming a living nightmare for both of them."

WILL WE EVER GROW OLD?
Some seem to care
and some do not
many only think
about what they want
Today may be good
for this and that
but you don’t play life
with a baseball bat
A future for our children
their children’s children, too
I ask you to consider
what the f**k are you going to do?
That fast car you drive today
will be your tomb tomorrow
And all the words you say
will bring nothing but sorrow
So much concrete on the ground
how can we live and breathe
Whirlpools seas go round and round
we got problems up to our teeth
Kill the life we live
before it is too late
carbon footprint
at your garden gate
If that gate opens
the future is foretold
Not a single one of us
will ever grow old!
