🚜☕🍔We loved being able to attend Gower Young Farmers Club’s first ever Farmers Breakfast Market last Sunday, which sought to celebrate ‘where your breakfast comes from’.

The event was held in a marquee on Llanrhidian Primary School grounds, which was funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund working alongside Swansea Council’s Rural Anchor.

Local traders present, included Big Meadow, Gower Coast Meat, Magpie Artisan Pies, Rodericks Vegetables, Tuckers Butchers, The Gower Gin Company and other Gower-based artisans.

📣Big shout out to Will’s Petting Farm for providing warming cuddles with rescue rabbits and 2 beautiful pygmy goats on a cold day.

It was good to support local small businesses, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming and it was great to be able to chat with local producers and some of Swansea’s young farmers, and find out about some of the challenges experienced by them.

🍔🚜📣Roeddem yn falch iawn o allu bod yn bresennol yn nigwyddiad cyntaf erioed Clwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Gŵyr ddydd Sul diwethaf, a oedd yn dathlu 'o ble y daw eich brecwast'.

Cynhaliwyd y digwyddiad mewn pabell fawr ar dir Ysgol Gynradd Llanrhidian, ac fe'i hariannwyd gan Gronfa Ffyniant Gyffredin y DU wrth weithio ochr yn ochr â chynllun Angori Gwledig Cyngor Abertawe.

Roedd y masnachwyr lleol a oedd yn bresennol yn cynnwys Big Meadow, Gower Coast Meat, Magpie Artisan Pies, Rodericks Vegetables, Tuckers Butchers, Cwmni Jin Gŵyr a chrefftwyr eraill o benrhyn Gŵyr.

📣Hoffem ddiolch i Will’s Petting Farm am ddarparu cyfle i anwesu cwningod wedi'u hachub a 2 afr pigmi ar ddiwrnod digon oer.

Roedd yn dda cael cefnogi busnesau bach lleol, roedd yr awyrgylch yn gynnes ac yn groesawgar ac roedd yn wych gallu sgwrsio â chynhyrchwyr lleol a rhai o ffermwyr ifanc Abertawe, a chael gwybod am rai o'r heriau y maent yn eu hwynebu.

☕🍰A Magical Morning at Llanrhidian Primary School's Café Event!

On a frosty December morning, we joined parents and members of the community at Llanrhidian Primary School to experience a truly heartwarming event. Under a marquee on the school grounds, the pupils treated us to a wonderful choir performance that brought smiles all around!

The marquee, funded by a £7,000 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), is at the heart of a series of community-focused winter activities. These include six café events and a farmer’s market, offering wonderful opportunities to foster connections and spread joy throughout the season.

After the performance, we stepped indoors to enjoy the cozy café Caffi Cynefin, where a delightful selection of cakes, teas, and coffees were offered payment is in the form of donations, which are welcomes and appreciated.

We were warmly served by two lovely pupils from the school, who clearly enjoyed their roles as waitresses. One of the parents, Holly, who has recently moved back to the area from Bristol, shared how much she appreciated the sense of community these events foster. Her daughter, Lily, was one of the waitresses, and Holly was thrilled to see Lily gaining confidence and valuable experience engaging with the public. Lily likes meeting the customers and is involved in all aspects of the cafe, including processing the days ‘takings’.

A big thank you to Llanrhidian Primary School for making such meaningful community events possible, bringing people together whilst providing a unique learning experience for pupils.

☕🍰Bore hudol yn nigwyddiad Caffi Ysgol Gynradd Llanrhidian

Ar fore rhewllyd o Ragfyr, ymunom â rhieni ac aelodau o'r gymuned yn Ysgol Gynradd Llanrhidian i brofi digwyddiad gwirioneddol galonogol. Mewn pabell fawr ar dir yr ysgol, cawsom ein diddanu gan gôr yr ysgol - perfformiad a ddaeth â gwên i wynebau pawb!

Mae'r babell fawr, a ariannwyd drwy grant gwerth £7,000 gan Gronfa Ffyniant Gyffredin y DU, yn ganolog i gyfres o weithgareddau cymunedol dros y gaeaf. Maent yn cynnwys chwe digwyddiad caffi a marchnad ffermwyr sy'n cynnig cyfleoedd gwych i feithrin cysylltiadau a lledaenu llawenydd drwy gydol y tymor.
Ar ôl y perfformiad, aethom y tu mewn i fwynhau'r caffi clyd, Caffi Cynefin, lle cynigiwyd detholiad hyfryd o deisennau, te a choffi. Mae'r tâl ar gyfer y rhain ar ffurf rhoddion sy'n cael eu croesawu a'u gwerthfawrogi.

Roedd dau ddisgybl hyfryd o'r ysgol yn gweini, ac roedd yn amlwg eu bod yn mwynhau eu rolau fel morynion bwrdd. Roedd un o'r rhieni, Holly, a oedd newydd symud yn ôl i'r ardal o Fryste, wedi rhannu cymaint yr oedd yn gwerthfawrogi'r ymdeimlad o gymuned y mae'r digwyddiadau hyn yn ei feithrin. Roedd ei merch Lily yn un o'r morynion bwrdd ac roedd Holly wrth ei bodd i weld Lily yn magu hyder ac yn cael profiad gwerthfawr wrth ymwneud â'r cyhoedd. Mae Lily yn hoffi cwrdd â'r cwsmeriaid ac mae'n ymwneud â phob agwedd ar y caffi, gan gynnwys prosesu 'derbyniadau'r' dydd.

Diolch yn fawr iawn i Ysgol Gynradd Llanrhidian am wneud digwyddiadau cymunedol ystyrlon fel hyn yn bosib, gan ddod â phobl ynghyd wrth ddarparu profiad dysgu unigryw i ddisgyblion.

A colourful mixture of community events, organisations and rural projects have been boosted by more than £530,000 of support, thanks to Swansea Council’s Rural Anchor Shared Prosperity fund.

Over the course of just 12 months, 42 schemes ranging from a community fruit growing and sharing programme and an otter and water vole restoration project to a Gower community’s first-ever food festival have all been supported.

Recent schemes to have benefited from the council’s ambition to support projects that could benefit from a small financial boost to make a big community difference include:

Community-focussed winter activities in Llanrhidian: A marquee in the grounds of Llanrhidian Primary School was funded to be the focal point of a series of community evets in the countdown to Christmas. They included a farmer’s market and six café events hosted by pupils and featuring the school choir.
Gower Unearthed. A project to produce a new digital archive to save for posterity the Project the agricultural and rural history of Mumbles, in particular its links to the rural hamlets of Bishopston. The archive includes eight oral history recordings, the collation and publication of family trees and previously unpublished photographs of rural life. The project has also offered a vital opportunity give voice to a farming community under huge pressure providing social history and an insight into life today. Find one story here: John and Mark Davies, an oral account of farming at Gelli Groes and Geli Glo Fan Farms
A solar installation for Three Crosses Community Centre. This project sought to install solar panels, with battery facility for power storage at this village landmark with a view to reducing energy consumption/costs and also reducing CO2e emissions. By embracing up to date software available, heating levels can be controlled remotely and specifically targeted to reflect hour by hour use of the hall. The community centre is now warmer and less expensive for the community council to heat, thus enabling room rental rates to remain accessible to the rural community. In addition, the excess solar power is exported to the national grid when it is not required at the community centre, thus generating income.
Bantani Cymru CIC have been working with eight local primary schools to create a Nature Quest neighbourhood nature trail across rural Swansea. Pupils explored their school grounds to learn about and celebrate the natural world which surrounds them. Each school has their unique QR code, which guides virtual visitors through their individual trail, full of information about their school’s particular fauna and wildlife. Virtual visitors are invited to experience the same beauty of nature that these children discovered and captured at https://bantani.cymru/neighbourhood-trails/
Llangyfelach Scout Group green space project. The project aimed to further develop a plot of land surrounding Llangyfelach Scout Hall. What they’ve delivered is a DDA-compliant natural resource and community destination featuring paths, wildlife cameras, bird boxes, bee hotels and much else for everyone to enjoy. A team of volunteers is looking after the site.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said:

“We’re determined as part of our Shared Prosperity Fund allocation from the UK Government to benefit as many Swansea residents and businesses as possible.

“This includes our fantastic rural communities, so it’s very encouraging to have approved so many diverse and exciting community projects that are making a difference.”

Cllr Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, added: "From nature walks and food markets to projects that help community centres cut energy costs, preserve our agricultural heritage, and improve rural community facilities, many thousands of local people have benefitted from the schemes approved over the last year.

"This is important because our rural communities do so much for Swansea's culture and economy."

📣📣Pension credit deadline looms - please share

If you know someone who might benefit from pension credit, let them know the deadline is coming.

Due to changes to Winter Fuel Payments it is now more important to make sure people over pension age claim the means-tested benefits they are entitled to.

To get a Winter Fuel payment this year Pensioners (including couples where only one is over pension age) must be entitled to a qualifying benefit during 16th - 22nd September 2024. This includes cases where the qualifying benefit is backdated to that period.

Qualifying benefits are:

Pension Credit
Universal Credit
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
Income support
Child Tax Credit
Working Tax credit
Where pensioners were already getting one of these benefits between 16th - 22nd September you do not need to do anything. For example some pensioners get Tax Credits and some mixed aged couples where one is under pension age get UC. This will mean they are entitled to a Winter Fuel payment already.

Pension Credit can be backdated for three months with no reason as long as conditions are met.

This means the last date to make a backdated claim for Pension Credit to ensure entitlement to a winter fuel payment is 21st December. ACT NOW (unless already in receipt of one of the above benefits during the 'qualifying week')

Awaiting a decision on a claim for Attendance Allowance?

If you made a claim for Attendance Allowance prior to the 22nd September and still haven't received a decision or challenging a negative decision, and you are currently do not qualify for Pension Credit. Make a backdated claim now; you will be refused this benefit, but if you are awarded Attendance Allowance, it is possible that this award will then entitle you to Pension Credit; You need to make a second claim within three months and request that your previous claim is reconsidered.

This is complicated, seek advice:
