Yet more archive film has been found from the famous 1972 tour, which formed the basis of the best-selling 2010 DVD Bird on a Wire. Concert material from the shows in Stockholm, Paris and the Albert Hall, with Cohen at the height of his powers performing Marianne, Susanne, Joan of Arc, The Story of Isaac, The Dealer and many other songs, has now been edited together by Tony Palmer, who shot the original material.

This is interspersed with more backstage film of the band on tour, and even some fresh interviews with Cohen himself, together with some previously unreleased sound recordings of his early masterpieces.

This will all add considerably to footage of the early part of Cohen’s career, for which there is an increasing need since, apart from the film Bird on a Wire, now banned by SONY, there is comparatively little widely available.

Step back into an era where music was defined by legends, and no artist looms larger in the history of popular music than Frank Sinatra. Alongside The Beatles and Elvis Presley, Sinatra forever changed the landscape of musical taste, influencing not only his contemporaries but generations of artists to come. From the swinging sounds of the big band era to his triumphant solo career, Sinatra's voice became the gold standard of popular music, capturing the hearts of millions and establishing him as the "King of Crooners."
Born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Sinatra's journey from a local newspaper worker to one of the most celebrated voices in the world is a testament to his talent and determination. Inspired by Bing Crosby, Sinatra began singing wherever he could—clubs, bars, and talent shows—eventually forming "The Hoboken Four" and winning the "Major Bowes Amateur Hour" radio show, which catapulted him into the spotlight.
After stints with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey’s orchestras, Sinatra's solo career soared, making him the idol of screaming teenage fans and a household name. His film career, although initially rocky, saw a monumental turnaround with his Oscar-winning role in "From Here to Eternity," leading to a string of iconic performances both on screen and in the studio.
These live recordings capture Sinatra at the peak of his career, showcasing his unparalleled ability to connect with audiences through his vibrant and emotive voice. From his collaborations during the "Capitol Years" to the hits of the "Reprise Years," including classics like "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "Come Fly with Me.” this collection is a testament to Sinatra's enduring appeal and his unique talent for bringing the best out of any song.
Frank Sinatra was more than a singer; he was a cultural icon, a trailblazer whose influence is still felt today. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering his magic for the first time, these live recordings offer a rare glimpse into the genius of the greatest popular singer the world has ever known. His voice, once the soundtrack of a generation, remains timeless, proving that Sinatra’s star will never fade.

Recorded at the end of a year in which Mountain had released two heavy-hitting albums, Nantucket Sleighride and Flowers of Evil, New Year Concert, 1971 is evidence of the pure, unfettered New York rockers letting it all out on stage.

Full of winding improvisations around established classics (look out for a 23-minute re-working of ‘Silver Paper’, originally taking up a mere three minutes on the group’s debut album, Climbing!) and bludgeoning takes on ‘Blood of the Sun’ (from guitarist Leslie West’s debut album, Mountain) and Nantucket Sleighride’s ‘Don’t Look Around’, the set-list even makes room for a face-melting ‘Auld Lang Syne’, doing for the New Year’s anthem what Hendrix did for The Star-Spangled Banner.

The shouts at the end? Could be cheers from the crowd; could be an audience running for cover from some of the heaviest rock every to blast though a PA system…

The true definition of a “guitarist’s guitarist”, Michael Chapman could turn his hand to seemingly any style of music, drawing on jazz, rock and even Indian traditions in order to create a truly unique sound among Britan’s late-60s folk scene.

A remarkable resurgence in the early 21st century – led by no less an authority than Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore – saw Chapman, then in his 60s, embark on an astoundingly prolific run, with the Plaindealer album emerging as just one of three records issued in 2005 alone.

Displaying his deep knowledge of folk-music history, he delivers a lengthy extemporisation on Woody Guthrie’s all-too-relevant Deportees (“They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves”), and a dig through his own past turns up the ten-minute ‘Anniversary’, originally laid down as early as 1968 and here racing back into life, Chapman’s careworn voice carrying with it all the wisdom of the decades in between.

Finding its creator as honest as ever, Plaindealer is an essential part of an ever-rewarding body of work.

Named for a local description of the summer twilight in the Shetlands, The Simmer Dim is a shining example of John Martyn’s inimitable talents. Recorded live on 12 August, 1980, at the intimate Garrison Theatre in Lerwick, the album finds a solo Martyn creating the sound of a guitar orchestra with his trademark echo-plex effects (hear the 18-minute ‘Outside In’) and drawing a rapt audience close with an impassioned ‘Couldn’t Love You More’, from his classic 1977 album, One World. Captivating and complex in equal measure, Martyn switches with ease from the gentle beauty of some of his most-loved material to raucous tales that have the 280 souls present hooting with laughter – all the while in the command of his art and his audience alike. Fans who are yet to hear this stunning performance will find they can’t love it more.

As the lead guitarist and vocalist for the band known as the Gun, Adrian achieved his first significant breakthrough with the song “Race with the Devil” when he was just 18 years old. Released as a single in October 1968, this track soared to the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart and gained substantial popularity across various European nations by March 1969.

Shortly after the Gun disbanded, Gurvitz embarked on his first solo album project, which eventually evolved into Three Man Army’s debut album, “A Third of a Lifetime.” Three Man Army secured contracts with Reprise and Warner Bros. Records, and their debut album featured various drummers, including Buddy Miles, known for his association with Band of Gypsys, and Mike Kellie of Spooky Tooth, as well as Carmine Appice from Vanilla Fudge.

Following the untimely passing of Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles extended an invitation to Gurvitz to join his band, the Buddy Miles Express, for their U.S. tour. This tour spanned two years and consistently attracted audiences of 50,000 people per night. During this tour, Gurvitz contributed to Miles’ 1973 album “Chapter VII,” and it was during this period that he crossed paths with Ginger Baker, the famed drummer of Cream.

Upon concluding the tour with Buddy Miles, Gurvitz returned to the UK and reunited with his brother and fellow Three Man Army band member, Paul Gurvitz. The addition of Tony Newman, previously associated with Sounds Incorporated and Rod Stewart, led to the formation of the Baker Gurvitz Army.

The band signed contracts with Vertigo Records in the UK and Atlantic Records in the United States. Their eponymous album, “Baker Gurvitz Army,” achieved gold status, peaking at No. 22 on the UK Albums Chart and entering the US Billboard 200 chart. Subsequently, they released two more gold albums, “Elysian Encounter” (1975) and “Hearts on Fire” (1976).

Gurvitz’s talents attracted the attention of Graeme Edge, drummer for the Moody Blues, who invited him to join the Graeme Edge Band. Gurvitz played a pivotal role in writing, singing, and producing Edge’s next two albums, “Kick Off Your Muddy Boots” and “Paradise Ballroom,” both of which found success in the United States under the Threshold label, featuring cover illustrations by Joe Petagno.
In 1979, Gurvitz embarked on a solo career and recorded two albums with Jet Records. “Sweet Vendetta,” featuring collaborations with renowned studio musicians like Jeff, Joe, and Steve Porcaro, as well as David Paich of Toto fame, was one of his solo ventures. Subsequently, he released “Il Assassino” in 1980. Following the conclusion of his contract with Jet Records, he signed with EMI/Rak in Europe and Geffen Records in the US. Under these labels, he released his third album, “Classic,” which achieved success with the hit single “Classic,” reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart.
Continued over…
During this period, Gurvitz notably contributed to Mickie Most’s publishing company Rak Music Publishing, composing songs for artists like Earle Brown, Hot Chocolate, and crafting the England World Cup Squad song “England, We’ll Fly the Flag,” which became part of “This Time (We’ll Get It Right)” and reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart.

Gurvitz later relocated to the United States and penned Eddie Money’s hit track, “The Love in Your Eyes,” which earned recognition on the Billboard charts. His association with Warner Chappell Music led to the creation of tracks for artists such as Steve Perry, REO Speedwagon, and Chicago. In 1992, his composition “Even If My Heart Would Break,” recorded by Aaron Neville and Kenny G, featured in the film “The Bodyguard” and its Grammy-winning soundtrack album, one of the best-selling albums of all time.

In the year 2000, Gurvitz played a key role in forming the American-British pop girl group, No Secrets, which included his daughter, Carly Lewis. Their song “Kids in America” topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart and was featured on the Jimmy Neutron movie soundtrack. Gurvitz contributed significantly to Walt Disney Records, producing and composing songs for popular Disney artists like Jesse McCartney, Cheetah Girls, and Anne Hathaway. He also worked on several Disneymania soundtracks, resulting in three gold albums.

In 2011, Gurvitz produced the track “Stevie on the Radio” for Pixie Lott, featuring Stevie Wonder, on the album “Young Foolish Happy,” which achieved gold status in the UK. More recently, he has collaborated with artists such as Ziggy Marley and Andra Day. Adrian has been ranked one of the best rock guitar players in the world.

He has just finished a new album called “Blood, Sweat, and Years” and will be touring in the UK in 2024, so watch out for this legendary artist.

Adrian’s exciting new studio album "Blood Sweat & Years" features new co-writes with top songwriter Charlie Midnight.
The album features beautifully crafted songs throughout. We hear a thoughtful, reflective Adrian Gurvitz delivering songs from the heart and soul. Adrian’s moving performances on every song is simply stunning.

The Album also features the new classic “Blood Sweat and Years”” the first single off the album.
A heartfelt song of all the troubles in life, at times we all have, but still get there in the end
