A car caught fire for an unknown reason in the middle of the road (Ryhope Rd) this afternoon, (15:35-15:40) at Grangetown.
-
At one point, flames of 10-12 feet high could be seen. Two fire engines were there instantly to put out the blaze, watched by hundreds of onlookers.

One more fire in the Hendon area last night... Fires in bins, old furniture, even in cars are -unfortunately- a very often problem for the locals.
-
The good thing is that for one more time 2 fire trucks came to the spot very fast and they distinguished the fire.
-
People are really scared about their properties as the problem remains the same for over 1 year. Police have arrested a few suspects till today but they seem to have found no solution at all.

Today, Wednesday 27 January, marks the commemoration of the Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK, (and in many other countries all over the world) and in 2021 the event will unfold a bit differently.
Due to the pandemic, this is the first time the main ceremony will be fully digital.
-
This year's participants are invited to "be the light in the darkness" within world events beyond their control.
-
Today, as they have announced from the Sunderland City Council, to remember and honoured the victims of Holocaust, the Northern Spire bridge, the Keel Square and the Beacon of Light would be the landmarks that supposed to be it up in the colour purple from dusk until dawn in honour of the event.
-
It was really disappointing and disgraceful at the same time, that both Keel Square and Northern Spire Bridge were in total darkness, with no lights at all at purple and only the Beacon of Light was really in purple light (probably because it has nothing to do with the city council).
The only purple light was in a single tree out in the Keel Square, but this tree is in purple light most of the time, because of a permanent purple light at the bottom of the tree!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT AT 3PM

Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday that the UK will not be plunged back into a national lockdown - after ruling out an even stricter Tier 5.
Just a day after Independent SAGE said England's Tier 4 restrictions aren't tough enough to control the mutant Covid-19 strain, Hancock confirmed more regions in England will be plunged into tougher restrictions.

After record numbers of daily coronavirus cases and hospitalisations, the Health Secretary revealed he planned to introduce more restrictions across the country - but ruled out a full lockdown like the one in March.
He will announce full details at 3pm in an announcement but denied he'll be announcing a national lockdown, or a Tier 5.

Emergency services arrived at the building tonight and reported flames “issuing from the building.” These included the fire service, the police and ambulance service.
Fire services and police are there from both sides of the building. They have secured and closed the 2 parallel roads to Villette Rd.

Until now, we don't know the reasons that caused the fire.

Pierre Cardin, the French designer who revolutionised fashion, has died at the age of 98. He was credited with modernising couture for a mass audience and his name became synonymous with style.

Setting out his unique flair in the 1940s, his label became known around the world and went on to cover a range of other products. His family announced his death today at a hospital in Neuilly, near Paris.

The designer, who has been long been engaged with the democratization of fashion and the industry through ready-to-wear and licensing, respectively. Cardin embraced the Space Age and led a “revolution” in menswear, the highpoint of which was designing suits for the Beatles.

Michael Gove confirms only primary school children, children of key workers and secondary school children in years 11 and 13 will go back to school on the 4th January.
