The Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth is really beautiful. Getting the boat to the dock is not easy though as there is a strong current in the river and bridge very close by. Luckily we “only” had 2 knots with us when we came🫣

We had an amazing time in this lobster harbour in Nova Scotia, where we met some great people and felt the Canadian hospitality.

Find out which harbour it is and read about our trip towards USA in our newest blog post. Link in comment!

It is not because we don’t like Nova Scotia that we rush past everything. We really like it a lot.

We are finally getting amazing sunrises and sunsets again.

We met some great people and found great restaurants.

But it is getting chilly and we have relatives visiting for Christmas, so we are heading for the US! But we will see you again in the Spring ❤️🤩

In this post, we take a moment to vent some of our frustrations with the current technologies and cartography that we sailors rely on to safely navigate the seas. These tools are critical for keeping us off the rocks, yet all too often, they fall short in quality, reliability, or usability....

We have been away from the boat visiting friends and families in Europe for the last few weeks.

It was nice getting back to the boat and Newfoundland, but not the weather. After waiting out massive waves and serious wind, we now take the opportunity to move again.

We have met some great people at and can really recommend hiding from a storm there 🤩

And always great to get a picture of Snow Bear when we departed into some grey weather this morning😁

Thank you for that Greg🤩

After a pleasant crossing from Labrador to Newfoundland, we explored St. Anthony’s and the historic L’Anse aux Meadows, marking the end of our Viking Route. Stops in Lewisporte, Twillingsgate, Bonavista, and finally St. John’s offered scenic hikes, vibrant local culture, boat maintenance, and incredible encounters with local hospitality and 2 difficult harbour entrances....

What is your favourite lighthouse?

Some lighthouses just get a special place in your heart as they make a big impression when you pass them.

We seem to have a thing for red and white lighthouses as they just seem so friendly and welcoming.

3 lighthouses that made an impression on us is: the Iconic Fastnet Rock (Ireland), Eileen Glas Lighthouse (Scotland) and now Cape Bonavista lighthouse (Canada).

We are sad we missed Thridragaviti lighthouse in Iceland!

What are your favourite lighthouses?

We spent that last couple of days working on some important installation conversions on the boat.

The first was to install additional wiring, isolators and shore power socket to adapt our 16a 220v boat to 30a 120v Canadian and US power, at the heart of this conversion we fitted the Victron Auto 3600w version of Isolation Transformer which does a fantastic job of converting both 120V and 220V to a stable 240V whilst at the same time works as an isolation transformer.

Everything aboard so far seems quite happy going from 50Hz to 60Hz.

We will write a more technical blog post about this installation, which is the easiest way to convert an EU boat for the US and visa versa.

Next was the Propane where we decided to purchase two 11LB refillable tanks to replace the 6KG UK tanks. These fit perfectly in the locker and then we just needed to change over the hose tail fitting to a US Pol.. Filling these was easy at the local gas station. (So much cheaper than in the UK)

We have also changed our reefing winch for a self tailing winch, this will make the process of reefing down the main, particularly when sailing downwind, so much easier.

We spent a month in southern Greenland and had an amazing time visiting this quite remote destination. We had heard rumours of an amazing anchorage and were not disappointed by it. The supermarkets here are so well-stocked, which really surprised us, but there is one thing we just couldn't find! And we also share the recipe for a great drink to make to celebrate a successful cold crossing....

Do you know a sauna with a better view?

We are always on the look for great saunas and so far the one in Qaqortoq definitely has the first place.
It is fantastic to sit in the warm at watch ice bergs float by. You just keep hoping for a whale to swim by as well.
