📢 Stone Pub Club – Bringing Men Together! 🍻🎱

Just a week ago, local resident Ryan put out the call to see if there was interest in an informal men’s social group in Stone – a chance for blokes new to the area, or just looking to make new mates, to meet up for a drink and a chat.

Well, last Wednesday, five men – of all ages and backgrounds – met up at The Crown Wharf, where we shared stories, laughs, and a few beers over a three-hour chat. Safe to say, it was a success!

So, we’re doing it again! This week, we’re off to The Red Lion for pints and pool, and all Stone men are welcome to join us. No pressure, no commitments – just good company and a relaxed evening.

A planning application for the construction of two floodlit padel courts with a canopy at Stone Lawn Tennis & Squash Club has received overwhelming support, with the vast majority of consultation responses backing the proposal.

The application, submitted to Stafford Borough Council (Ref: 24/39897/FUL), seeks approval to introduce two padel courts at the club on Newcastle Road. Padel, a rapidly expanding sport across the UK, combines elements of tennis and squash and is renowned for being easy to learn and highly accessible for players of all ages.

Out of 22 neighbour consultation responses, 20 were in favour, one was neutral, and one objected—but not due to opposition to the courts themselves. Many supporters highlighted health, fitness, and accessibility benefits, as well as the potential economic boost for Stone.

Councils in Staffordshire have been given six weeks to develop initial proposals to change the county’s political map forever.

The government announced in December that all two-tier councils in England would be abolished and replaced with a single layer of unitary authorities.

In Staffordshire, local services are currently split between the county and district councils – except in Stoke-on-Trent, which already has a unitary council. Ministers say the reorganisation will make local government more effective and efficient, and councils were invited to come up with their own proposals for the new unitaries.

Stone Leisure Centre is set to become more sustainable with the installation of new solar panels, cutting energy costs and reducing carbon emissions.

Freedom Leisure, the not-for-profit trust that runs the centre on behalf of Stafford Borough Council, has fitted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to the roof as part of a major green investment. The project, which also includes Stafford Leisure Centre, aims to reduce reliance on traditional electricity sources and lower environmental impact.

Police have arrested seven people in Stone and surrounding areas as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected child criminal exploitation (CCE).

Staffordshire Police carried out proactive searches at 14 addresses on Thursday, 6th February, targeting locations in Stone, Blythe Bridge, Barlaston, and Stoke-on-Trent. The operation led to the arrests of seven individuals and the seizure of drugs and cash.

The arrests are part of a wider effort by the force’s child exploitation team to investigate adults suspected of coercing vulnerable children into criminal activities.
