Seven Miles Out was a creative social space based in the heart of Stockport Old Town over a five year period from December 2013 to April 2018. The project was funded by Stockport’s Portas Pilot with the purpose of helping the regeneration of the Market and Underbanks which has become popularly known as Stockport Old Town. Five years on, Seven Miles Out has succeeded in its mission of attracting people back into this beautiful and historic part of the town centre and being the catalyst for more exciting investment.
When it opened, Seven Miles Out was the first venue in the Market Place to kickstart the evening economy with arts and music events and quickly became a popular destination for all ages hosting regular live music and comedy nights, film screenings, art exhibitions and workshops, poetry slams and many cultural festival events which have helped us to grow an amazing community of people who are all passionate about their hometown.
In March 2015, the Seven Miles Out team took over the management of Stockport Foodie Friday and turned it into an an award-winning event which continues to attract thousands of people to the Market Place every last Friday of the month. Seven Miles Out was an integral part of this success, providing a safe social space for families and nurturing local talent by giving a platform to young up and coming bands and musicians.
Although Seven Miles Out has now closed its doors, the legacy lives on. We took our name and our inspiration from Stockport’s legendary boutique emporium owned by the maverick entrepreneur Miles Baddeley in the 1960’s and 1970’s, which was a vibrant hub of independence and creativity.
With that very ethos, we have now launched Seven Miles Out Records to continue our mission to put Stockport in the spotlight as a creative town and give a platform to local music talent.
