Work is underway on the Winter/Spring issue of Arts & Culture supplement that works to highlight all that is going on ion your local arts and culture sector.

This next issue will cover December 2024 to May 2025 and will be out in the December issue of Stockport Post, Manchester South Post and Manchester North post from 5 December as a printed pull-out supplement, as well as being available online.

The content deadline for any arts and culture-focused news/community events or workshops etc is 31 October.

The GMCA Inspire Fund is a small grants fund to support creatives across GM to focus on seeding projects, diversifying opportunities, the creation of new work and springboard ideas, and supporting unique proposals that might not be supported by other funding streams.

Our next Arts & Culture Supplements will cover July - December 2024 and be included as a pull-out printed supplement (and individual online publication) in the July issue of Stockport Post and Manchester South Post.

If you are running an event that falls under Arts and Culture and is being held at some pint during this time, you can send in brief details - event, date, time, venue - for our 'What's on' listing section.

If you work within the Stockport or Manchester arts and culture sectors, and would like to submit a feature - such as tips on photography, making ceramics, colour choices for art, tips for structuring short stories etc ( the possibilities are pretty much endless!), then do get in touch.

Content deadline for each supplement is 30 May.

The Spring issue of Arts & Culture Stockport is out as a printed pull-out supplement inside Stockport Post tomorrow, with all subscribers to Stockport Post receiving the online version into their inboxes first!

All publications will be available to view online via the relevant website by the weekend, with collections venues/volunteers receiving their printed stocks from tomorrow.

Before the Christmas madness starts, I thought I would share with you a little bit about me. (I’m not self-obsessed, quite the opposite in fact!)

I really appreciate your likes, your comments and when you purchase from me, I dance a little dance inside!

It’s quite difficult at times being an artist, though I absolutely love what I do.

You have so many hats to wear. The marketing, the photography, the packaging, the technical stuff, pricing up, setting up stalls, the list is endless.

I have always loved art from the moment I could hold a pencil, and would colour in, draw all the time, even in bed!

I longed so much to be an artist, and desperately wanted to pursue art as my chosen career.

My Dad was old fashioned and traditional and wouldn’t support my dream, so I ended up doing a really boring secretarial course, I hated every minute.

I married my love, had a beautiful baby girl and worked doing office jobs. I would still doodle and paint the odd thing now and again, I was so frustrated.

In my teens I did A-level art, an evening course and loved life drawing and observational art. My favourite was the naked hippy in a tin bath, it was cold when the fan heater gave out, and can I say, it was quite challenging to get certain parts of the body accurate!

When my Daughter was a teenager, I joined an art group, and created observational drawings and paintings with gentle like-minded people, we had a great time.

Sadly this came to an end earlier this year, I learnt so much and absolutely loved my time there.

To cut a long story short, I lost my job due to ill health. My beautiful daughter Ceri-ann Brown encouraged me to open an Etsy shop and help me to create this page. I just didn’t think my art was any good, or that people would actually buy my art.

She secretly purchased pocket mirrors using the images from some of my paintings to my surprise, and I was totally amazed that people actually bought them!!!!! Thank you Cez ❤️

Though I’m not in the best of health, my art keeps me going. I am a humble person, I still dance a happy dance whenever I sell any of my work.

Thank you to my amazing hubby Russell Brown who encourages me, looks after me when I’m not feeling my best, and for your hard work grafting, erecting gazebo’s, tables and my bringing my art stuff to me whilst I sit on my chair!

My reason for writing this is just to introduce myself to you, but mainly to urge you to follow your dream and never give up trying to fulfill your dream ❤️
