Sadly, we did not receive many entries for our recent competition in conjunction with Just Chrys on the subject of the Olympics. We have therefore decided to run a different competition later in the year on a different subject. Details will be released in September.
We would like to thank those who took part and we have selected one design as the overall winner. Details will be released later today. Have a great summer.

Game On – Get Ready for the Olympics! – Get Ready for the Olympics
Rules of the Competition:
Welcome to the latest Fusion Flowers magazine/ Just Chrys competition which is entitled “Game On – Get Ready for the Olympics". Once again, this competition is very different from our previous competitions so please read the rules very carefully.
1 75% of the flowers used must be fresh Chrysanthemum – other fresh flowers and foliage may also be used or can be in combination with dried material together with sundries, but no artificial plant material is permitted.
2 The design should be created to showcase YOUR creativity and originality based on the theme of the Olympic Games.
3 Please state which sport, flag or emblem you are depicting.
4 Entries open on – 22 June and close at midnight on 22 July UK time.
5 Entries should be sent via private message to the main Fusion Flowers magazine page and should show your name, location, photographers name (permission to publish if successful) and can include (if appropriate) your company, website, page link etc - you can send in a maximum of 5 photographs of the design shot at different angles but must include one clear, full shot of the entire design.
6 The design should be your own work or should state if more than one person was involved.
7 You may send as many entries as you wish.
8 Please first post the design on your own page (not on Stories) and send us a link to your page because photographs sent by private message are often reduced in resolution by Facebook.
9 If successful, you must be able to supply the photograph in high resolution for printing/publication purposes and it must be in focus.
10 Just Chrys may use your photographs for marketing purposes but will feature your name and that of the photographer.
11 Judges will be looking for originality, good craftsmanship, excellent technique and interpretation of the theme and the designs should be suitable for publication in international design magazines as we will be sharing the winning designs with other publishers.
12 The judge’s decision is final.
13 The results will be posted on the main Fusion Flowers magazine page.
14 This is an independent competition and has nothing to do with Facebook.

Tomorrow we release details of our next competition but, in the meantime, here is some background information to think about!
GAME ON - Get ready for the Olympics
Chrysanthemums can be found in all kinds of colours, shapes and sizes, making them ideal for countless creations. Moreover, their very long shelf life and strength make them ideal for celebrating sporting events, like the Olympic Games this summer!
Students from Ecole Nationale des Fleuristes de Paris have already developed a number of initial creations. From decorations for the shop window or the counter to attributes such as corsages for team members or championship bouquets: everything is possible with chrysanthemum! Be inspired and use your own creativity to turn this major event into a source of extra sales and score points with your customers!

Theme 4: Show the flowers and the big stems of the massive Hydrangea and impress your customers!
This fan bouquet contains quite a few Hydrangeas. There is a wire frame underneath and decorative wooden flowers placed onto thin aluminum wire which have been incorporated over the Hydrangeas. A number of tendrils have also been placed over the Hydrangeas. This immediately creates depth in the bouquet. A number of Phalaenopsis stems bring peace to the bouquet again!

Theme 3: Natural Explosion - Explosive power! This theme revolves around the colourful combinations you can create with cut Hydrangeas.
Make the bouquet explode in terms of shape! A celebration of expressive shapes and lines that complement each other beautifully. It’s bright, bold, in-your-face, and not for those who want to play it safe.

Theme 2: Sometimes it doesn't have to be much! With just a few stems of hydrangea you can make design by nature with a lot of impact. A number of threaded (covered) wires have been drilled into a wooden base. Here, 5 mm thick aluminum wire wrapped with paper-wire has been processed with the drill. A number of tubes are attached to this from which the flowers takes their water. Make sure that the tubes are refilled regularly. It also makes a difference if the Hydrangeas are well hydrated in advance. Then they need less afterwards. If it is made for an event, it is of course important that they have enough water for 1 day. For consumers you can also go for larger tubes.

Theme 1 - a vase full of happiness, for impact designs for hotel, office, desk, weddings and events. Let the vase be part of your design. This beautiful vase contains many stems of gorgeous Hydrangeas. They are clamped in the vase in water. No floral foam or wire was used in the vase, only a beautiful branch used as an anchor to attach the stems secured with a wire to keep everything in place. The vase is really one whole with the flowers! The colours in the vase were the guideline for the choice of colours for the flowers. Simple, fast to make but very beautiful!

As promised, here is some feedback from the esteemed panel of judges for the Fusion Flowers magazine / Danziger Cut Flowers ( ) competition “Flowers into Fashionable Art" .
1 This was a very interesting competition to judge. There were, as usual, certain criteria required but several competitors appeared to have been ignored. them
2 Designs had to include one or all of the SPECIFIED varieties listed but this still meant that they had to be the predominant factor in the floral content of the design and sadly this was not always the case.
3 We had extra help on the judging panel this time - growers who specialised in the listed varieties who helped to highlight whether the correct varieties had been used for which we are very grateful.
4 The photographs had to be of a standard for printing if necessary - some were clearly out of focus.
5 In some cases the focus was more on the models rather than the flowers. In a competition like this, THE FLOWERS COME FIRST which means that they need to be seen.
6 The clue for the theme is always in the title and this time it was “Flowers into Fashionable Art" - we think that some people didn't pick up on that.
7 We were delighted to see some originality / creativity in the entries.
8 It was great to see so many people taking part.
9 We hope that this feedback helps competitors to move forward.

Sending a huge THANK YOU to our judges.

My Oh My! My name has been pulled out of Caroline Marshall-Foster's very large pot as 1 of the 100 faces of floristry for National Florist Day. What an honour for me. The announcement gave me a much needed boost. It's wonderful to be a part of this joyous occasion and I would like to send a big THANK YOU to the person that nominated me in the first place. Bless you for that. Everyone in the industry must stand up and shout about the wonderful world of flowers.

We've had (as you know) an amazing response to our latest competition the Fusion Flowers magazine / Danziger Cut Flowers ( ) competition “Flowers into Fashionable Art" and the judges tell me that they enjoyed the designs as much as we did. However, there were very specific material requirements for the competition including the theme and we will give some feedback from the judges tomorrow. In the meantime, we send our grateful thanks to everyone who competed, to Danziger Cut Flowers and to our wonderful judges. THANK YOU ALL!
