An early start today. All set up and ready for rehearsals by 1030h meant the alarm clock ringing at 0430h this morning.

But the lunchtime awards show went smoothly and it was pleasant to be working with Cameron Events again.

This week, we hosted an innovative hybrid event for SCVO at the Birnam Arts Centre, bridging distances across Scotland. While the scenic journey to Birnam is always a delight, we understand that travel isn't always feasible for everyone. That's why we went fully hybrid!

The only thing our virtual participants missed out on was the delectable catering by Birnam Arts Centre - always a treat for the tastebuds

Just wrapped up one of the biggest events I've ever managed (so far): The 10-year anniversary concert for The Kelpies in Falkirk.

Huge thanks to the phenomenal team at MM Sound and Lighting for entrusting me with this high-profile event and for their exceptional support that made it all possible.

A shoutout to the incredible team of full-time and freelance technicians who put in countless hours to make it happen. You were all heroes. Special props to Keigan, MM's lighting designer, for making the Kelpies look absolutely fantastic.

After 7 months of planning, 9 days on-site, 11 burgers, 5 hotdogs and seemingly endless truck loads of kit, it's come and gone, and now we're onto the next adventure.

We always say we stand by our work. Today I did just that.

A while ago we installed a multicamera live streaming system into St. Mary's cathedral in Edinburgh. It was designed to be robust and not require a skilled AV tech to operate it.

Today they were live streaming a funeral to the House of Lords. The BBC also wanted a feed. They were understandably nervous with such a high profile event and wanted some reassurance. So I went along as support.
And I stood by my work.

That's all I did. I just stood by it while it all did exactly what it should do, controlled by the Provost, who's not a trained Audio Visual professional, but doesn't need to be because we configured a robust system. Everything worked smoothly, as I knew it would. But they had the reassurance that I was on hand just in case.

We're proud of that installation. We've now started upgrading their sound system, in conjuction with the excellent team at Progression AV and we'll be proud of that too.

We stand by our work.

The chamelionic technician

Generally I'm comfortable in my work wear. Polo shirts and steel toecap boots are the usual get up. But not always.

A client we installed a permanent live stream system for is streaming a high profile funeral today. The system is working fine and they can operate it by themselves. But when the stakes are high they want to know we've got their back.

So the suit goes on and we're going in to be on hand if they need us.

Internal Exile tour came to Hawick in the Scottish borders. Michael Scurfield built the stage and manned a follow spot. The start of a long road saw the founding of Destiny Productions 6 years later.

Today we're at Glasgow Science centre facilitating the hybrid section of a conference for them

Systems testing in the warehouse today. We upgraded the video input cards on the hybrid conference racks, so spent the afternoon pushing large amounts of video through them to make sure they're stable and reliable.

A nice little live stream job from an Edinburgh hotel for an investment trust. Sound, screens, cameras and streaming - including a mobile router as back up for the venue's cabled internet connection because it was critical that those watching online had a constant connection.

An early start, but that meant everything was up and working in plenty of time.

You no longer have to sit in a plane for hours to work internationally, but the "red eye" still exists. This week has online events across multiple time zones. Rehearsals start at 6am BST tomorrow. Meaning I'm in the studio switching on at 5am to be sure everything's ready. So the alarm clocks look like this:

A financial conference we delivered last week, entirely online, to two separate platforms simultaneously. Everything checked and mixed professionally from our studio so that the presenters could concentrate on delivering their message and engaging with their audience whilst we dealt with the technicalities.

We had a call recently from an orchestra, looking to work collaboratively with colleagues in Canada. Their Canadian team wanted to send and receive live video over the internet using NDI 5. Could we help? Of course we could.

Two years ago we installed a user operated live streaming system into this Cathedral. This weekend they underwent a much needed upgrade to their IT network. So naturally we went back in to help with the reconfiguration of the streaming equipment.

Had a great day in Birnam with Scottish Rural Action, delivering a smoothlessly integrated hybrid event with participants on site and on line all engaging in the conversation. A big well done to Artemis and her team for desiging and running an event that engaged both the online and in person audiences equally.

What a weekend! On Saturday we were streaming the West Lothian College Graduation Ceremony. We set up on Friday, tested thoroughly and all was well. Better than well, in fact as the dedicated internet feed the college had provided us was giving exceptional speeds and was totally solid.

Until Saturday morning. We arrived to site to find a stressed and panicky IT department and no internet. None at all, anywhere on the campus. It seems the council had decided to take the network off line for the weekend to facilitate updates and maintenance. This wouldn’t be problem, they thought, as no-one works at the weekend……

Once it became apparent that we weren’t going to get our connection back, we did a quick repatch, moved the back up system (which was set to a lower resolution and therefore required less bandwidth) onto one of our mobile data connections and we were off and running, streaming live to Youtube.

It wasn’t the quality we’d planned to stream out, but the client was delighted that we were able to go live at all. And of course, we recorded a higher quality version to be uploaded later once they got their connection back.

Somehow, somewhere, there’s always a way.

This time working with the inimitable Alan Brown on a full hybrid event, streaming the whole event to MS Teams, facilitating group discussions including those in the room and those on line and allowing presenters who couldn't get to Edinburgh to present from their own desk.

........from a venue with no internet.

3 mobile broadband routers, bonded together using our custom built server gave us a good and stable internet connection for the day.
