So now the pot hole repair team cannot tell the difference between a drain cover and a pot hole…….any wonder our roads are such a mess?

I pity the poor sod who needs to open this, but happy to buy a ticket and watch him try!!!

Today in Mayfield the local highways and council have come together to increase the greening of our lovely village. This lovely pot hole now features its own garden designed specially to capture CO2 and hide any necessary maintenance works!

It’s Goodbye Green Bin Day. Today is the last time I use the green bin…..but why?

Two reasons, the first is that the charge amounts to an almost 5% increase in my Council Tax bill, and the second is that I can no longer put food waste in the bin.

This means I put it in my grey bin that goes to landfill. This from a household that is very strict about recycling and whose grey bin is just about empty evvery two weeks.

If local government was serious about financial issue can I suggest they think about pension provisions? Roughly 20% of your council tax bill is to cover pensions……there is no business alinventhat can or would survive paying those overheads. It’s why final salary pension schemes ended……except for the few, who can also do a 4 day week!

It’s been a while since I posted anything but……the highways department never ceases to amaze me. So we have more pot homes than houses in Buckden…..and so what shall we do. I know let’s paint some nice new shiny white lines…..over the top of the pot holes. Genius!!!!

These two, all be it minor, blemishes are in the brand new repairs to the pot holes at the top end of Glebe Lane.

So it hasn’t even survived the summer…..how will it be after the winter?

This repair won’t even last a year…..what a waste of time, effort and money.

But the good news is that the local council is working 4 days a week !! That’ll help.

This is how a pothole develops. A small rack, then water gets in freezes and it opens. Then traffic bashing etc…and it gets bigger.

So. Maybe if the small cracks were filled earlier then less potholes would need filling.

But is that too bloody obvious!

So…..here is what I don’t get.

I know it’s not on the road and not strictly a pot hole. But pavements, one photo is Silver Street. Nice new shiny black top - that wasn’t really needed. The other is Lucks Lane……which you wouldn’t want to navigate with a push chair or a wheel chair.

So why one and not the other?

In Stirtloe Lane this morning a whopper! It’s either a new pot hole big enough for my wife or maybe plans for a new burial plot that we were unaware of!

So here is 2 easy questions for the highways team at the council. You bring in a big expensive machine and engineers at a significant cost to repair holes in Springfield Close and the end of Cranfield Way.

1st Question. Who lives in Springfield Close that makes it so special compared to the rest of us?
2nd Question. Why this 10 foot by 2 foot stretch was not stretched by 9” to fill the hole at the end…? I mean really…..

Pot Hole of the Week! This one at the entrance to Cranfield Way is big enough to stand in and grow it’s own vegetation!!! Soon be tomato season let’s get planting… !!

This one is in St Hugh’s road……St Hugh was the bishop who started building the first Buckden Palace…..the last time the pot holes were repaired in Buckden!

This week the local council voted to move to a 4 day week after a successful trial period. Naturally the productivity will not be impacted and the pot holes will continue to be ignored as efficiently as ever! Here are some typically hard grafters!

Pot hole discrimination by the council?……..we need to know. In Lucks Lane this week two pot holes within 5m of each other. One gets filled and one doesn’t….! What has he/she/they done? Is this discriminatory?

This week’s star pot hole……a long thin doublet. Only a few months in the making this has been gently developing in Glebe Lane which was so skilfully repaired last year.
