8 years ago today, Kix & I left the concrete jungle Manila with our whole lives packed into just 7 suitcases. What felt like a ‘chilly’ 21°C in Manila quickly turned into a damp, gloomy 2°C London welcome 14 hours later. I nearly cried in Heathrow on the first hour of Valentine's Day as I uttered, "What have I done?". 🤣😂

We didn’t see the sun again for nearly two months—then when it finally showed up, it gave us all four seasons in a single day.😜

It's been quite a ride to say the least. But through all the grey skies, endless cups of tea, and the ‘covid summer’ that saved us all, England is our beloved home now. ❤️

In 2023, I met an incredible 82-year-old Parisian woman—lovely yet fiercely independent—living on her own not far from me here in the UK. She makes a living selling the vintage treasures she collected in her younger years, and I first got to know her as one of her customers.

When I learned she lived alone, I would drop by for chats, sometimes bringing her food and sometimes even taking her to doctor’s appointments. She fascinated me—there’s just something about her. Her stories, the glamorous and not-so-glamorous jobs she’s had, the men she’s dated—her life is a tapestry of experiences.

Today, I brought her a portion of the Sunday roast we had at home, and in return, she handed me a bottle of vintage Bordeaux along with this lovely picture of an art orginally drawn by an Italian painter C. Calderara circa 1900s and a handwritten note at the back. I told her she didnt have to and she answered me... 'I've never done things because I have to, I've always done them because I want to.'

Moments like these remind me how much wisdom and richness there is to learn from those who came before us.❤️

⬇️ LIFE UPDATE ⬇️

Hello everyone!

I've made the difficult decision to PAUSE the doughnut operations for now and the forseeable future.

With the many different layers of challenges one after another, the price increase of everything and inflation post-pandemic has been one of the major factors for this difficult decision. To make this new post-covid swing of things work, my family will also be needing more attention and support from me.

FYI - I will still be fulfilling all advanced prior bookings for weddings, events and orders of all sizes up to early 2023. You'd have received an email from me informing you of the same. If you haven't yet, kindly get in touch.

Mrs. D's Doughnuts means so much to me and has given me a new confidence and sense in life especially during the height of the pandemic. Ive met so many wonderful people and it's been a great honour to have been part of your family gatherings and special life events. I've made so many new friends. To all other business Ive worked and collaborated with, suppliers and patrons - thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me. This hasn't been easy one but this is definitely not goodbye, just a little pause in between.

In the next couple of days, I will temporarily transition this page to Mrs. D's Kitchen. Please stay tuned. I will be sharing contents that you may find useful for you and your household. Maybe even teach you all how to make doughnuts the way I do, that and many more. I will also be doing something for every now and then, closer to christmas.
