stories, experiences, memories, your photos, videos and updates from the town - and we'll share the best for our fans to see. The University and golfing links vie for the history stakes - both having six centuries of heritage under their belt, but the town has so much more to offer ...

The town takes its name from Saint Andrew, the Apostle. There's been a church here since the 8th century - and probably before - and a Bishopric since the 1200s. The history and heritage of the town is palpable as you walk the cobbled streets and discover ancient buildings, monuments and outstanding exhibits in the town's museums. St Andrews grew to the west of the cathedral. Now a ruin, it is still an imposing sight - and commands the east end of the town's main streets: North Street, Market Street and South Street - all converging on the cathedral site. The remaining towers and steeples can be seen from miles around. The ancient harbour is a must visit - on the north edge of East Sands beach - as is St Andrews Castle that looks out to St Andrews Bay and across the shoreline to the stunning West Sands Beach. St Andrews is known worldwide as the 'home of golf' - mainly because the Royal and Ancient Golf Club (est. 1754) oversees the game's legislative authority in all four corners of the world bar the USA & Mexico. But it is the links - the land that links the sea with the town and farmland - that makes the 'home' so special. The land is owned by the town - and has been since an Act of Parliament enshrined it in public ownership in 1894. It ensures it is retained for the use of golfers - and it is the most used venue for The Open Championship - the oldest of golf's four major championships. The Old, New Course, Jubilee, Eden & Castle Courses are amongst the best ranked in the world - and in the countryside around the town are many more fantastic golf courses that make the town and our area a magnet for golfers worldwide. Today, the town welcomes students, academics, golfers and holiday makers from home and abroad. It is a great home for some fantastic businesses who have invested in St Andrews.
