My story …
Once upon a time I was greedy, lazy and complacent …
Eating too much, too often and for too many wrong reasons - boredom, comfort, convenience - ignoring the obvious signs, like a full stomach. And, when combined with too much television and too little exercise - the result was inevitable. I suffered a slow, but sneakily steady and eventually substantial, weight gain. Unfortunately, I have a naturally slight frame, which carries weight badly - this was no fairytale.
Fortunately though … there was a happy ending ! I found ‘Cambridge’
I always thought I was ok, even though my wife tagged me ‘B-cup’. It didn’t really make an impression.
It wasn’t until my brother, who’s about 21stone, ridiculed some beach holiday photos. That was … ‘the moment’.
Eventually, in 2009, after a few stumbles and a wander in the wilderness, I found, The Cambridge Weight Plan. The one-to-one weekly meetings, the guidance and encouragement, the discipline and structure, and the amazing variety of meals and flavours, all worked so well.
I steadily dropped those unforgiving stones and progressed through the steps, embracing stabilisation and maintenance. With their structure I established new eating routines, understanding portion sizes, healthy options, good and evil foods and most importantly how to strike a successful balance for life, between indulgences and healthy living.
I have embraced healthy eating and a little regular exercise and for the last six years, or so, my weight has fluctuated by no more than a couple of pounds each month. I can eat pizza and cake and curry and take-aways But !!! Not every night -
it’s about finding the balance.
It’s essential to remember - it’s such a short and temporary journey. There are plenty of indulgences and treats to be enjoyed, once you‘ve hit your target, but it’s about finding the right balance. Not eating out of habit, or comfort, or simply because you can.
