For all the wrong reasons, the people of Southport were invited to remember three young girls and all the families caught up in yesterday's horror.
People are still arriving, minute by minute ahead of a 6pm scheduled start
The scene at The Atkinson right now, flowers and candles are being laid. The people of Southport and beyond are steadily streaming to the area for this evenings vigil.
Sir Keir Starmer has visited the scene of yesterday's knife attack in Southport.
The prime minister laid flowers and paid his respects.
His visit follows that of his home secretary, Yvette Cooper, who laid a wreath earlier.
"How many more children?" he was asked by one onlooker.
More shouts were heard as he left the scene.
It reads: "To the victims, families and people of Southport.
"Our hearts are broken. There are no words for such profound loss.
"The nation's thoughts are with you."
