The woman was walking in Warrington town centre, at around 1pm on Tuesday, March 1, when the theft occurred. The purse had bank cards and cash in it. After the incident, cards in the purse were used to make withdrawals of around £300.

There were also other attempts to buy a train ticket at Warrington Bank Quay station. Police have now released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to. They believe the woman pictured will have information about the crime that can help their investigation.

Police constable Graham Davies, of Warrington Beat Team, said: "We have started following numerous enquiries and are appealing to the public for information. If you recognise the woman in the photo please do contact us.

"I would also like to appeal directly to the woman in the CCTV image to get in touch as she could have information that would assist with our investigation. ECHO investigates property company behind clutch of massive schemes across the North West

Joanne Karen Waller,42, is the managing director of the Sourced Development Group, a property company behind a clutch of major schemes in Liverpool and Manchester.

Joanne Karen Waller,42, is the managing director of the Sourced Development Group, a property company behind a clutch of major schemes in Liverpool and Manchester.

Ms Waller is also a director of two special purpose vehicle ( SPV) companies behind a massive development on Blackstock Street on the edge of Liverpool city centre.

However the ECHO can now reveal that Ms Waller is the subject of a Section 43 order handed down in relation to her conduct at a Wirral solicitors.

A S43 order is the equivalent of a strike off for non-solicitors.

Ms Waller said to the ECHO: "This was in respect of an extremely complicated and drawn out matter some 15 years ago. There is a confidentiality agreement in place and so I cannot comment on this further.

"I confirm I have also not acted in that role for over 15 years and this has had no bearing on my current career pathway."

In 2011 she was pursued by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) and Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal ( SDT) in relation to her role at Hamilton Square law firm 1 Law.

Following a hearing by the SDT it was found that Ms Waller had tried to register eight leasehold flats in Ashton-in-Makerfield to a company owned by one of the individuals.

Mr IR bought flats from company C. Mr PJM then bought the flats from Mr IR, completed on October 26 2007. The purchase was financed by bridging firm ABF. However Ms Waller registered the flats to R Developments, a company owned by Mr IR. The properties were not registered to show the interests of Mr PJM or ABF.

The tribunal concluded that: "On the basis of the Respondent's own admission, the Tribunal found so that it was sure that the Respondent had submitted applications to the Land Registry to register the interests of R Developments against the flats, knowing that the interests in those flats lay with Mr PJM and ABF."

The tribunal then handed down a S43 Order, prohibiting Ms Waller from working for law firms in England and Wales, without permission.

This would require Ms Waller to submit an application to the Law Society explaining why she should be allowed to work for the law firm and would not be able to do so without the SRA's express written permission.

Ms Waller chose not to attend the hearing. She was not accused of acting dishonestly.

MAN OFFERS £2,500 REWARD.

Thieves stole the distinctive car from outside the man's home
LIVERPOOL ECHO

A man is offering a £2,500 reward after his prized Land Rover Defender vehicle was stolen from outside his home.

The distinctive metallic grey vehicle was parked in Limont Road, Ainsdale, when it was taken on either Friday or Saturday of last week.

The owner, Mick Addison, said the car was stolen while he was away on business in Northern Ireland.

Mick is managing director of a firm called GBR Solutions, which helps people get into employment, mainly in the rail and construction sectors.

He bought the vehicle from a specialist firm in the south and it's believed it was formerly being used for HS2 works.

Mick said: "The car is hot as there's none around like it.

"I'm offering a reward because I'm convinced there's an operation out there which is targeting Land Rovers, and either chopping them up or ringing them (providing with false number plates).

"Even if I don't find my own vehicle, I want to help find one of the stolen ones. I don't work just so scumbags can take what's not theirs."

Merseyside Police confirmed the Land Rover Defender was stolen "without the keys" and enquiries were ongoing.

Community Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “We understand the concern and inconvenience that car thefts can cause for local residents and I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to find out who is responsible and bring them to justice.

"If you were in the Limont Road area over the weekend and saw the vehicle described or anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know. Information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.

“Whether you get in touch with us directly or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon."

Anyone with information on this incident or vehicle theft on Merseyside is asked to contact on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 22000092206.

WALTON: Family of seven found living in 'heartbreaking' conditions
A neighbour had called to express concerns about how the family were living

LIVERPOOL ECHO

A family of seven were found living in a ‘bare’ house with hardly any furniture or carpets.

Councillor Gerard Woodhouse received a phone call from a resident concerned about a family living in his County ward, which covers Walton.

The councillor joined volunteers from Liverpool 6 Community Centre to visit the family to see if they could offer support.

They arrived to find a scene Cllr Woodhouse described as “heartbreaking”.

He wrote on Facebook: "It was heartbreaking - the poor family of seven were living in house bare, hardly any furniture, carpets, decoration or curtains to list a few. I told the mum I would do what I could to help her and put the calls out on Monday afternoon”.

Volunteers set out to improve the situation and returned to the address with a skip and tools for decoration.

According to Cllr Woodhouse, they worked until midnight on Monday (January 31) and Tuesday (February 1) to paint and decorate four bedrooms, the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom, the stairs and landing.

Carpets and flooring were fitted throughout the house by a local business and by the end of Wednesday (February 2), the home was completely furnished.

This included seven beds, bedroom furniture, a new kitchen (including an oven, fridge-freezer, washing machine, microwave, pots, pans and cutlery), a dining room table and chairs, a TV, sofa, coffee table, side cabinet, bookcase, and a fireplace.

However, the task is not yet done.

Cllr Woodhouse added: “Tomorrow we will concentrate on clothing, frozen food and the little things that will make this house a home, and at the weekend our volunteers will work on the garden.

“Before the keyboard warriors start, this family had not asked for anything, it was a neighbour who contacted me, as she was concerned. This mum was not a drug taker or alcohol dependant - the mum had slipped, like a lot of others, through the net.”

He continued: “Although the house was in a bad state, the children were loved and she tried her hardest to give the kids what she could, when she could.

"While this has been going on, we have worked with partners to get her support, her benefits looked at and also got her to see her doctor.

"It's early days yet but hopefully the mum will get the help and support she needs. It was great to see the mum tonight and the children so happy and a job well done.”

Britain is currently facing a cost of living crisis, which will be exacerbated by today’s announcement of the new energy price cap.

It means the price cap on standard variable tariffs - which also ends up affecting fixed-rate tariffs down the line - will rise from £1,277 to £1,971 per year from April 1.

Around 22 million households will see their energy bills soar as the average price will rise by £693 a year.

SOUTHPORT:
MAN'S 'LIFE AFFIRMING' EXPERIENCE AFTER FALL AT TRAIN STATION

LIVERPOOL ECHO NEWS

Tom, a construction worker from Southport, was riding his bike into Southport station on Wednesday, January 26 when he fell off on the concourse of the station.

As a result, he fractured his hip, although he didn't know the extent of his injuries at the time.

Despite the fall and the injury, he says feels grateful for the response from passersby and staff at the station.

He initially took to the hyperlocal networking site nextdoor.co.uk to share his experience.

He wrote: "A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to my assistance. I slipped and fell on the pavement concourse from Chapel St to the train station and fractured my hip a week ago.

"The station staff, morning commuters, ambulance crew, nurses, porters, doctors, anesthetists, surgeons, physio, cleaners, chefs and all the NHS staff involved in putting me back together again displayed so much genuine humanity. A wonderful life-affirming experience. Thank you."

Tom is now at home recovering.

He told the ECHO about how the response proved to be a silver lining.

He said: "I was just going into work by commute on bike and train. I was just coming into the train station on my bike and I slipped on the concourse of the train station. Immediately there were a few passersby who were really helpful. I didn't realise the damage at the time as I was probably in a state of shock.

"All the people who passed by me wanted to help. I guess that's just a natural thing but it just seemed also genuine at the time. Then, in what seemed like seconds, some of the train station staff came down and were helpful. They could see I was struggling. They were chatty and just reassuring.

"They could see I was in need of assistance so one of them rang an ambulance, another one put my bike away and gave me the assurance I was in safe hands and the bike would be safe there etc.

He continued: "Then I was waiting for the ambulance and the pain started to kick in but when the ambulance arrived they were just terrific, the pair of them. I guess it's just part of the job but they were just so professional and good at it.

"A lot of people don't seem to have good things to say about the NHS but my experience from Wednesday, the ambulance and my whole journey through the hospital just gave me confidence and reassurance. The pain was taken away really because the people were so nice."

SOUTHPORT'S MOST RESPECTED GENTLEMAN BARON RONNIE FEARN HAS DIED AGED 90 YEARS

The former Southport MP was described as a 'one off, a true phenomena' as friends and colleagues paid tribute
liverpoolecho

Tributes have been paid to a former Merseyside MP, described as “Mr Southport”, who has died aged 90.

Ronald Fearn, known as Ronnie, was MP for Southport from 1987 to 1992 and 1997 to 2001, serving first as a member of the Liberal party and later as a Liberal Democrat.

He also served as a councillor for Sefton Council from 1974 to 2016 and previously for the county council – he was the longest serving councillor in the borough by the time of his retirement in his 80s, having served in politics for over 50 years.

He received a life peerage in 2001, becoming Baron Fearn of Southport and was previously awarded an OBE in 1985.

His successor as Southport MP and current councillor and leader of Sefton Liberal Democrats Cllr John Pugh paid tribute to “one off” Baron Fearn after his death earlier this week.

Cllr Pugh said: “Ronnie was a one-off, a true phenomenon.

Ronnie Fearn with his wife Joyce celebrating victory in the 2008 local elections in Southport

“Although he will long be remembered for his political career , in no sense was he a typical politician but a man who loved and was interested in people- their common concerns and individual differences.

“I have met very few politicians with more instinct for what bothers and what pleases ordinary folk, young and old.

“Linked into his community in so many ways it was hard to find a street in Southport where no-one claimed to know him personally.

“He was truly a mould-breaking politician being the only Lib Dems gain in the 1987 General Election.

“Despite that and latter success and responsibilities, he continued delighting everyone by performing and producing the legendary All Souls pantomimes- never losing his sense of proportion amidst the absurdities of Westminster.

“He remained on the local Council throughout his political life and we wouldn’t have a Pier today without him.

“He richly deserves the epithet ‘Mr Southport’.

“However, the key thing that many who knew him will recall most about Ronnie is not his obvious success or achievements but his kindness and awareness.

“He was enormously supportive of those who worked with or for him -the team- and the first person at any event to remember and thank the staff, the workers, the people others sometimes took for granted.

“That feeling for and appreciation of the lot of others made Ronnie Fearn special.

“It’s not a cliche to say our thoughts and prayers go out to Ronnie, Joyce and the family.”

Southport MP Damien Moore also paid tribute to the former MP, saying: ” I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie Fearn, Southport’s former Member of Parliament.

“Ronnie served Southport well, from his time as MP right through to his almost two decades in the House of Lords.

“His passion for celebrating our town is something that is widely recognised.

“My thoughts are with Ronnie’s family at this difficult time.”

On social media, politicians from across Merseyside also paid tribute to Baron Fearn.

Liverpool Liberal Democrat councillor Kris Brown said: “Sorry to learn of the passing of Lord Ronnie Fearn aka “Mr Southport”

ELDERLY COUPLE IN TARLETON BANNED FROM KEEPING PETS AFTER CRUELTY TO PONIES

Warning: Images people may find upsetting.

A couple who admitted keeping ponies in the worst conditions an RSPCA inspector had ever seen have been spared jail due to their "medical needs and age".

The RSPCA said Barbara and Jack Carter, 73 and 75, neglected "every basic aspect" of care for nine horses, eight of which had to be put down.

It said the Tarleton couple kept the ponies in a "barbaric" state.

Preston magistrates gave them 12-week suspended sentences and banned them from keeping animals for life.

A spokeswoman for the charity said the presiding magistrate had said the case crossed "the custody threshold", because of the "prolonged ill treatment and neglect", but had suspended the couple's sentences for three animal welfare offences because of their "medical needs and age".

She said RSPCA inspector Vicki McDonald and Lancashire Police officers went to the couple's home on Bank Bridge in April 2021 after they had previously avoided inspections, "citing various reasons".

She said Jack Carter denied there were any ponies or horses on site, but "reluctantly agreed" to show Ms McDonald the stable behind the house.

The inspector said she was shocked by what she found in that stable and three others and had "never seen anything like it in my entire career".

She said one pony was "stood on top of deep rotting litter that had built up so much that it reached the top of the stable door".

"The pony was unable to fully stand up and its back protruded through a hole in the stable roof."

She said the pony had "severely overgrown feet beyond anything I had seen before" and had hooves which "extended out and corkscrewed".

She then found three more horses with similar hooves and "patches of sore skin, most likely from having no option but to lie in their own filth".

"It was obvious that none of these ponies had been out of their stables or been seen by a farrier for a very considerable amount of time, if at all," she said.

All four ponies had to be put down.
