Housed within the beautiful Caledonian Mansions on Great Western Road, Roots Fruits and Flowers is one of Glasgow's most iconic and much loved independent brands which still operates to the same beliefs and values created by owner Garth Gulland in 1979.

Starting as a fruit and veg collective in 1979, Roots Fruits and Flowers has evolved into multi faceted business supplying organic fruit and veg, hand picked flowers, freshly baked goods and so much more.

GLASGOWS SECRET OTTOMAN COFFEE HOUSE

Hidden away at 73 Berkeley street, lies one of the most charming and unique coffee shops in the city.

Walk through the doors and you will find yourself transported back in time to the ottoman era.

When you look around, you will see walls decorated with traditional items straight from the grand bazaar in Istanbul. Hanging lamps, vintage furniture, ottoman paintings, chess boards, and much much more.

The building has been owned by the same family for over 25 years, only recently being converted into a coffee house in 2019.

It has a wonderful nostalgic charm to it, and used to be owned by the Glasgow music society. It was actually designed with acoustics in mind, and still remains the exact same to this day.

It is well worth a trip next time you are in town, located at 73 Berkley street, be sure to check it out!

LUPE PINTOS DELI 🌶

Located at 313 a great western road, you’ll find Lupe Pintos. A deli supplying hard to find Mexican and American ingredients sourced from all over the world.

The walls are full to the brim with hot sauces, spices, chillies, authentic Mexican tortillas, and Scotland’s best selection of tequila. Alongside this you can also try out some great beers, wines and other speciality drinks.

Don’t miss their homemade salsa and guacamole, it’s made fresh on the daily, and has got to be up there with some of the best we have ever tried!

Be sure to give it a visit next time you are in the west end!

THE COOLEST BENCH IN GLASGOW

Tucked away at the back of the botanic gardens, you’ll find this colourful bench covered in knitted patchwork. It’s such a unique wee find and definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

You’ve probably all heard of it. Some of you will have tried it. This… is Shawarma King:

A well known Glasgow institution famous for their wraps. Shawarma King specialises in fresh, fast food, specifically shawarma - layered meat that gets built into a giant tower and roasted on the spit.

There’s always a que outside the door, and for a good reason too. They recently won the award for the best kebab house in Scotland!

If you’ve ever been, you will understand why people love it so much. Everything is homemade and they use the freshest ingredients. They even make all the bread for the wraps from scratch.

The menu is is small but packs a punch, offering up a range of shawarma based meals, and kebabs that are cooked to order over the charcoal grill.

There is a range of starters on offer too, many of which are vegan, however the stand out has to be the chicken wings.

Make sure to visit it next time you are feeling peckish. We got told that the best time to go is during the afternoon between about 2-4, the que is less and you can get that much needed munch a little bit quicker!
