Professional audio requires professional equipment... Especially when it comes to audio interfaces.

For me - Tom Dewan, Focusrite has always been my go-to brand for audio interfaces.

I started out in college - 2017, using the Focusrite Solo (featured in the image below). After seeing how reliable and easy it was to use, I decided to get my own Focusrite 2i2.

With 2 inputs and 2 outputs, the 2i2 expanded my recording capabilities.

As you may be able to tell, the numbers in the names of each interface correspond to the number of inputs and outputs available.

Now, in 2023, Beacon Sound is the proud owner of the Focusrite 18i20, boasting 18 inputs and 20 outputs. Enough for nearly any project and endless recording capabilities!

At Beacon Sound, we understand the difference between every type of microphone and how to use each one effectively... but let's cover the main 3!

The 3 most common microphone types found in studios around the world are;

Dynamic Microphones:

- Dynamic microphones are durable and versatile, suitable for live performances and loud environments.
- Dynamic microphones have a rugged construction and can handle high sound pressure levels, making them suitable for stage use and capturing loud sources like drums.
- Dynamic microphones are less sensitive and require more gain.

Condenser Microphones:

- Condenser microphones offer exceptional sensitivity and capture a wide range of frequencies, making them ideal for recording vocals with great detail.
- Condenser microphones employ a thin diaphragm that responds quickly to sound waves, resulting in a higher transient response and the ability to accurately capture fast, dynamic sounds such as percussive instruments and vocals with rapid changes in volume.
- Condenser microphones require phantom power (48v) or a battery in order to work properly.

Ribbon Microphones:

- Ribbon microphones provide a warm and smooth sound reproduction, often used for recording instruments like guitars and brass, offering a vintage and classic character to the audio.
- Ribbon microphones have a unique figure-8 polar pattern, capturing sound from both the front and back of the microphone, allowing for natural and spacious recordings.
- Ribbon microphones are usually very expensive, notoriously suseptible to damage and will likely break if dropped.

Hi all👋

I've been making tracks for quite some time now and I've come to the realisation that I struggle to finish them because, to my surprise, I suck at singing/coming up with decent lyrics.

that's why I'm asking if you or anyone you know might be interested in collaborating with me in the Beacon Sound studio.

I make a variety of different styles, mostly alternative/pop. I think most of my tracks would benefit from a softer female vocal but I am open to suggestions and will work with anyone that can sing in any style.
