Sherborne Photo Competition: Celebrating our town and local villages through your lens.

We are delighted to announce the North Dorset Photo Competition in collaboration with Visit-Dorset and our neighbouring towns: Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum, Gillingham and Sturminster Newton.

This competition invites photographers of all ages and skill levels to capture the essence of their town – its stunning landscapes, vibrant community, and rich heritage.

Here’s how the Sherborne part of the photo competition works:

📷What is it: A photography competition dedicated to showcasing Sherborne and surrounding villages in the DT9 postcode’s beauty and creativity to visitors.

📷Who can enter: Open to everyone, from professional photographers to keen amateurs.

📷When’s it happening: Website entries are open from 14th February 2025 to 28th March.

Judging: Our judging panel shortlists entries from each category for our town exhibition.

Sherborne Exhibition: The final ten photos from each category will be displayed for a public vote from 9th May.

🏆 What happens next? Winners of the public vote in Sherborne (Under 18s, Over 18s, and Professionals) will progress to the Winner of Winners Expo for North Dorset, competing against the best entries from our neighbouring towns.

Get your cameras (or smartphones!) ready and start exploring Sherborne’s charm – from iconic landscapes to the hidden gems of our town. This is your opportunity to shine and put Sherborne in the spotlight.

Please be aware that repairs are being made to various playgrounds in the town over the next couple of weeks. Please don't be surprised to see missing parts which will have been taken away for repair and will be returned asap 🛝

We are very excited to announce that Sherborne Town Council, working in conjunction with Sherborne Abbey is bringing Gaia to Sherborne later this year.
In Greek Mythology Gaia is the personification of the Earth.

This is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram and will be installed in Sherborne Abbey for two weeks, from 29th August 2025 to 12th September 2025. It will be inclusive for all to see, along with a specially curated, earth-inspired programme of ticketed events.

Town Clerk, Steve Shield said 'Following the huge success of the Dorset Moon which visited Sherborne back in 2019, I am delighted to have confirmed this touring artwork. The town council will be working with relevant groups across the town to deliver a programme of events.'

The artwork is presented slowly turning and a specially made surround-sound composition is played alongside the sculpture.

The Community Fridge is open again tomorrow from 10.15am at The Pod on Cheap Street.
Fresh food will be available for free.

The Sherborne Community Fridge will be open tomorrow. This is the last time it is open until after Christmas when it will re-open on 10th January.

The Sherborne Community Fridge is open again tomorrow from 10.15am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm at The Pod on Cheap Street.

The fridge will continue to be open each Friday except for the 27th December and 3rd January when The Pod will be closed over Christmas🎄
