The Eden Dora Trust for Children with Encephalitis celebrated their 10 year anniversary dinner recently ✨
The Eden Dora Trust was set up by Petrina, a Sheffield mum 10 years ago after her daughter got Encephalitis – an inflammation or swelling of the brain, caused by a virus (like flu, chicken pox, Covid) , an infection, or an autoimmune response that anyone can get, at any time. Encephalitis is a life-altering condition that can severely impact the lives of children and their families. The Eden Dora Trust was founded to offer support to children and their families affected by Encephalitis and subsequent childhood Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI) through support, information, education, and research. They understand first-hand the devastating impact that Encephalitis/ABI can have on the lives of those affected
Their primary focus is on providing services that help children and their families through their difficult journey. They offer support in hospitals, schools, communities, with families after hospital discharge, and raising awareness and funding research into the causes, diagnoses, and treatments of Encephalitis/ABI
They empower educators to understand the different needs of children with Acquired Brain Injuries in schools. Offering professional workshops, study days, and extensive information to provide support to all concerned
Eden Dora Trust have an extensive and knowledgeable advisory panel and offer a personal helpline for anyone who needs individualised support and guidance. Their goal is to provide a lifeline for so many children and families who feel isolated, different, misunderstood, and alone after the diagnoses of Encephalitis and ABI. They work tirelessly to ensure that everyone receives the support they need to get through the challenging times ahead
In summary, the charity provides a range of services and resources to support children and families affected by Encephalitis and ABI. They advocate for increased awareness, fund research and provide support and education to families, professionals, and educators. The ultimate goal is to help children and their families feel less isolated, different, misunderstood and alone after the diagnoses of Encephalitis /ABI

Petrina said “We are so proud to be celebrating our 10th anniversary, who knew that 10 years ago when I set up Eden Dora trust, selling buns and washing cars, we would have made it so far, helped so many families and be here today to celebrate 10 years!”
