Calling all Forge TV committee members, contributors, and any students dying to learn something new!

Forge TV will be hosting an open training this Friday, October 25 @ 2pm in the Media Hub.

No prior experience needed it’ll be a very basic training completed by our executive committee members to introduce basic camera and livestream skills. We will be teaching how to set-up tri-pods, standing cameras, what shots to cover, how to start a livestream and include wireless teradek camera set-up.

All the equipment we use is production industry standard and this training has led to several former members of Forge TV going on to work at larger companies such as ITV and GB News😱

All you need to bring is yourself, a pen and paper if you’d like to take notes, and a willingness to learn some new skills🍻

You’re all in luck! Forge TV is now opening an EGM to fill out the rest of our committee. 🖥️🎥

We have a few roles available, all with descriptions of their responsibilities, and a description of how to apply!! We want a short video📱 of you introducing yourself to our contributors, which role you’d like to apply for, and why you deserve this role. (Don’t be afraid to brag)

The Google Form for applications is now open and located in our Instagram bio. Please fill this out before Thursday October 24 at 9am!! All applications must be submitted by then. Voting will start 24 hours after then, on Friday October 25 at 9am.

Announcements of new roles will begin on the week of October 28!

Here are the results for the 2024 Forge TV AGM🙌 This lovely lot will be your committee for 2024/25!! We wish them all the best of luck for the coming year🤩 However, there are a few roles left to be filled so if you didn’t get a role or didn’t apply for a role and are interested do not panic! 🗳️ Voting in the 2024 Forge TV AGM is now open! 🎉

Cast your ballot quickly as the polls will shut in 24 hours time, at 6pm tomorrow. All University of Sheffield students are eligible to vote 👥

Want to get involved but missed the deadline? Fear not, come to our AGM on Wednesday 8th at 6pm and you can apply in-person for any roles yet to receive applications. More details in the post ⬆️

From 6pm that day, voting will commence for 24 hours before the results will be announced in the Media Hub at 6pm on Wednesday 8th.

What a weekend!

A small team of committee members headed to Manchester for the Awards and Conference, the first Forge TV representatives for 6 years! And, we didn’t come away empty handed…

🏆 On our return, we won 3rd place 🥉 for Best Light Entertainment and the increidble .p._.27 won second 🥈 for Best Production Talent 🔥

Both awards stem from Joe’s absolutely outstanding effort bringing Taskmaster to life, and so thank you to every single person that helped, watched and sat through our studio recording! We couldn’t have done it without any of you.

Plenty more to come during this upcoming semester so watch this space 👀

Last week* may have been the busiest in Forge TV’s history 🔥

Over the last week, Forge produced three live streams 📺

- 🪩 An ELEVEN HOUR marathon for the competition
- 🎯 ’ crushing win in the Steel City Darts
- 🏀 ’ big W last night

🗳️ Also, election coverage has started, with hosting a President’s Question Time (find it on our YouTube), while our NEW TIKTOK launched, featuring interviews with as many candidates as we could find!

Thankyou to every single person who made all these great projects come to life, and there’s more to come, including that all important Varsity signup news, so stay tuned 🖤💛🖤

Our Story

Forge TV is one of the three outlets that makes up Forge Media, the University of Sheffield’s student media team. Founded in 2009, we’ve been around since Slovakia started using the Euro, Rage Against the Machine were Christmas #1, and an aeroplane landed in the Hudson River.

In 2012 we achieved our best result at the NaSTA Awards, gaining the Highly Commended awards in the ‘Ident’ and ‘Best Broadcaster’ categories.

Forge TV was elected to host the 2018 NaSTA Conference and Awards in early 2017. Over 300 members of student television descended on Sheffield for a weekend of talks, networking and to find out who’d be taking home the 20+ awards up for grabs. Having not won anything since our 2012 success, we won our first ever award for ‘Light Entertainment’ and were also Highly Commended in the categories of ‘Post-Production’ and multi-platform content.
