As an entrepreneur you’re excited to make change happen.

When you’re excited - or afraid - it’s easy to dive straight into a project. Activity feels like the right thing to do.

The preparation matters.

And when it comes to building technology, preparation matters a lot.

Over the last 18 years of creating innovative new technology for our clients we saw ourselves - and them - diving into tech projects without a clear vision or plan for what we wanted to achieve at the end. Lots of technical features, little purpose.

We found that with any kind of innovation and business change, but especially with new technology, you should first identify and agree why you are doing it.

Why do this? Because technology projects are complex. There are many many things that could go wrong. These can cost you a lot of time and money. And your sanity. No-one likes being in a quagmire of technical BS.

Today, we thought we'd give you a little behind-the-scenes footage from The Rick & Clo Tech Show.

A lot of our recordings end up like this because of poor internet connection (can you guess whose?!)

It's frustrating.

And it doesn't set us up very well for productive calls.

Moral of the story: get the basics right first if you're looking to grow your business. Unstable foundations will only hinder your success.

One of the biggest concerns people have with fully remote teams is whether it's possible to have an open culture when you're all working 'alone'.

For us, we speak daily as a group to start our days off positively, and we also meet regularly in person.

Yesterday, we took some much-needed and well-deserved time away from 'work' to catch up with each other over a good old pub dinner -- and a pint of beer!
