Newby and Scalby Library is a community run library which has recently been awarded the prestigious 'King's Award For Voluntary Service' - an equivalent to an MBE for volunteer groups.

In this episode Isobel Nixon, the Chair of Trustees at the library explains what The King's Award is and why they were awarded it, a little about the history of the library as well as the many, many different ways they serve the local community.

Thank you to everyone who supported my brand new venture in 2024 - The Scarborough Spotlight Podcast - whether through listening to episodes, sharing episodes or actually being a part of it!

My gratitude goes to Scarborough Lions Club, Glenda Young - Author, Alan Ayckbourn, Scarborollers, Finest Organic Tea Company, Beckview Studios, South Cliff Gardens, The Hub Sea Swimmers, Scarborough, Hannah The Soldier Diaries, Scarborough Museums and Galleries (for both the Woodend and Scarborough Atlas episodes), Run Scarborough UK and St Martin's Church who were all open to coming on the podcast when I was getting it up and running, and all being fantastic guests too. It was a real pleasure to go along and meet The Hub Sea Swimmers earlier this week during their 'Full Moon Swim' at the South Bay. A really lovely, friendly group of people.

In this episode, we hear from Roxanne the creator of The Hub about why she set the group up, why they do it and how it has had unexpected benefits too.
Later in the episode, I speak to some of the swimmers who braved the sea on a chilly Scarborough evening too!
