Publication due 26 October

The Type 74 Tank (74TK) is a main battle tank (MBT) of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a supplement to the earlier
Type 61 Tank. The first prototype was delivered in 1968.
It was a second-generation MBT equipped with an L7A1 105 mm main gun. The 74TK was designed to present as small and low a profile as possible.
It was unique when introduced because it could alter its posture by using its hydro-pneumatic suspension to raise or lower the hull. This also provided a stable shooting platform, increasing firing accuracy.
The Type 74 was considered outdated even before it entered service. Since 2019, the retirement of Type 74 has been taking place, to be replaced by the 8-wheeled Type 16 Mobile Combat Vehicle, the subject of another Trackpad book.
Featured in this book are the Recovery, Anti-aircraft and Bridge-laying versions all based on the same chassis.

In the words of Simon Dunstan, acknowledged expert on the subject of Centurion

While there are several books on the technical and combat history of Centurion, there remains a dearth of publications on its service with European countries. It is therefore highly gratifying that Kim Sørensen has written an exemplary book about The Centurion in Danish Service.

Based on extensive primary research and many interviews with Centurion veterans (all of whom express their affection for the tank), a vivid picture emerges of an army that fulfilled its commitment to NATO through the professionalism of its armoured branch, with the Centurion at its heart. Profusely illustrated with excellent and well-annotated photographs, every aspect of Centurion is covered from technical improvements to crew uniforms and personal equipment. Furthermore, the armoured units within the Danish Order of Battle are well covered to provide the context of Centurion’s employment over the years, until its final retirement and replacement by Leopard 1.

Having written a fair share of Centurion books myself, I cannot praise The Centurion in Danish Service too highly, and I commend it to everyone interested in AFVs, and the Centurion in particular. Trackpad Publications is to be congratulated for producing this book which is an important addition to the overall story of Centurion.

Over its seventy-year aviation history, Lympne Airfield was equally important
to the military and civil sectors at different periods.
Opened in 1916, it was integral in two world wars, supporting events and campaigns in Western Europe.
During peacetime, it was the choice of famous aviators, airline operators and private flying.
Lympne saw it all – parachuting, gliding, air racing, air shows, car-carrying aircraft and early jets.

Trackpad would like to introduce a first-time author from Canada, Christopher Camfield.
In November 1944, an ungainly piece of equipment was introduced into service in the British and Canadian armies. Referred to at the time as the ‘Valentine 17-pounder SP’, and later as the ‘Archer’, it was a tracked vehicle with an open compartment at the front and a large gun facing to the rear.
Assigned to give anti-tank support to the infantry, the Archer ought in many difficult battles that had to be won in order to defeat N**i Germany. It continued to serve in the British Army until 1955.
This book tells the story of the Archer from start to finish. It includes the vehicle’s design and development, a detailed description, and contemporary discussions of its merits and flaws. The battles in which it fought are recounted, from its field trials in Normandy and Italy, to the battle for the Rhineland, and points beyond.
Based on archival research at The National Archives of the UK, Library and Archives Canada, and The Tank Museum at Bovington, this book will appeal to military vehicle enthusiasts, scale modellers, and those interested in the Second World War.
