As another day draws to a close I’ve been busy adding more merch to my Etsy today. I really love these jute totes and the colours, they truly give me all the joy of spring time which is just perfect considering that we are now heading towards lighter nights, no more crocheting with a neck torch, Yay! These bags are perfect for your WIPs because they come in 3 sizes, small which is great for small projects like socks, medium for your larger makes like lovely springtime shawls or wraps and then the large size, perfect for your blanket making. They have the pocket in the front which is ample size for all of your tools. With Mother’s Day in the UK just around the corner they would make a perfect gift for a crochet mad mum too.

My shop is starting to fill up nicely with my crochet accessories, with each item there are so many designs, also there are crochet, knitting and sewing options too. The latest addition are these cases which come in a choice of two sizes, a medium size measuring 19x 18cm perfect for hooks, scissors, tape measure etc. or the large version measuring 23 x 23cm perfect for taking your WIP pieces out and about in your bag with you. As the month draws to a close it’s time for my March Market post. It’s taken me all week to think about this one, it’s a slower month for me in March as I’m not doing the first weekend, also you will notice from the post that my end of month Congleton is also missing. This month saw Congleton tank for me so I’m still undecided whether to attend that one in future. It’s a lovely busy market but sadly busy doesn’t mean people are spending with me. I know times are hard for people but last weekend I barely made my stall fee and being brutally honest the time could have been better spent with my family or working on other areas of my business. The high street is a hard place to be, we’re constantly battling with online and sadly shops are closing every week, I love to go to Congleton and I love the interaction with people but I have to be realistic about it, this weekend I earned more on Etsy than I did the market and while I’m passionate to keep the high street alive, I have to move where the money is to keep my business sustainable.

Unfortunately, due increasing wind speeds my market at for this Sunday has been cancelled. I know these decisions aren’t taken lightly with the team at Castle Artisan so I’m really grateful that they’ve communicated it with stall holders so promptly. Safety of stall holders and visitors is paramount and I totally understand and support this decision. Fear not though, I’ll be back at Nantwich next month when the market returns on 23rd March. In the meantime Saturdays market at Congleton will still be going ahead and if you are still wanting your crochet squidge but can’t get to market please don’t forget that everything is still available on my Etsy. As a plus size girl it was important to me that my hoodie ranges were size inclusive. It really grates on me when I find something that I like but they don’t accommodate my size. Following on from my post the other day about my tote bags, you sent me so many lovely messages about it and how your crafts are your therapy too. I’m so pleased with the therapy range and can honestly say that the image will be available on hoodies too. It may even find itself in some hook case and other items soon too. In reviewing my best sellers for last weeks market I’m happy to say that my crochet granny wristlet was my most popular buy. These have been such a popular make, whether it’s a ready made version or the kit version which is on my etsy, they’ve definitely been a winner. These were followed closely by cards this week, I’m not sure if it’s because the location of the cards moved or just if it’s the time of year but they’re the perfect add on to any crochet purchase. Over the next few months I’m considering adding some more printed items to my stall, there are plans for note books and knitting and crochet journals, is there anything else you would like to see?

The new merch is coming along nicely and I thought it was time that I started to reveal some of my other items. This is by far my favourite because as I’ve said before Crochet really has been my therapy. I genuinely believe when times got tough (which they really did) crochet helped my mind, it saved me and it repaired me when nothing else could. I’ve spoke passionately about the benefits of craft before but I genuinely believe that it takes us to a place of calm. I love this saying so much ! In fact so much that not only will you see it on my WIP bags but you’ll also see it cropping up on other pieces too. If crochet is your safe place then why not grab yourself your very own tote. I’ve spent the last few weeks planning out my spring and summer range which is due to start hitting markets from March, it’s so amazing to start looking at how crochet can work just as well in the spring and summer. Obviously when I’ve looked at my Etsy stats it also looks like you all are starting to think of warmer days too as these little lovelies have started to fly out of my shop again. They’re the perfect accessory to take you right through from spring, summer and then back into autumn again. With just a few simple beginner friendly stitches they make up really quickly and look super professional. The yarn is 100% cotton so there will be no stretching and the kit also included all of the tools you’ll need to complete your project. It’s an absolute stunner of a kit! As I prep again for the weekends market I thought it was worth resharing where I’ll be this weekend as I feel like it’s been a bit up in the air the last few weeks with new and cancelled markets. On Saturday I’ll be back at Congleton for my usual monthly makers market which will be great to see so many familiar faces again. Following that I’ll be at Nantwich Artisan Market on Sunday for the first market of the year at Nantwich. Having a two market weekend is always a challenge when it comes to stock levels so this week I will be bringing back some of my crochet kits and tools and I’ll also be introducing some new crochet merch too.

Thank you to everyone who helped with my poll last week, it was much appreciated and I can confirm that a staggering 75% of respondents preferred hoodies to sweatshirts. Over the last few months it’s become apparent that while I sell crocheted and knitted items at markets, both Etsy and my markets are having a growing number of creatives visiting me, so much so that these have now taken over the number of customers buying ready made crochet items, some visitors want to tell me all about their work, others are wishing to purchase patterns, kits, tools, and well anything crochet and knitting related really! So with that in mind I have been reviewing my business model and looking at ways to diversify with a more sustainable model. Kits were super popular last year and are increasing in sales again this year so they will be coming through thick and fast at both markets and online, tools are also a firm favourite and don’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. I am being asked time and time again about what gifts people can buy for their loved ones who love crafts so I have made the decision to start to add giftable items to my markets and stall. Over the next few weeks you will see some@of my gift ideas shared and as always they will be both online and at markets. The first being shared are my hoodies. Following your polls last week this is the first one which has been designed using your answers as inspirations. They’re now available in my Etsy, they’re size inclusive ranging from UK XS - 3XL and come in a selection of colours, for a short time they also include free postage. I really hope you like them.
