The Reporters’ Academy is a non-profit youth training organisation that provides behind-the-scenes media industry training to young people.

Raising aspirations, employability and confidence and have since trained and supported over 1000 young people. The Reporters’ Academy is A Media Production Company integrated into the world of Media, Education and Employment. Based in the heart of two great sporting cities, Manchester and Australia, young people are producing across UK, Australia and Oceania. The Academy is a place where young peo

ple come to learn new skills, file their reports, express themselves, recharge their batteries and learn what it means to be part of a team. The young crew members put their training into action to work alongside partners to produce dynamic, fresh and youthful media, an exciting tool for our partners to use and reflect the integrity of the core aims of The Reporters’ Academy.

SPORT SCHOLARSHIP - NOW OPEN!

We're hosting a Sports and Olympic Reporting and Podcasting Scholarship in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

This programme will provide everything a young person needs to know about reporting on major sporting events, games and matches.

To join, we're looking for young people who:

⚽️Aged 14-21 years old
🏈Live or are based in a school in Trafford
🎾Can commit to several weeks of training sessions starting from May 2024
🏒Are able to travel to and from MediaCity themselves/provide their own transport

The training sessions will be weekly and will enhance their skills in production planning and research, filmmaking, interviewing, audio recording, editing and more. The outcome of the programme will be an official Olympic podcast which they would have produced, recorded and edited in MediaCity UK!

Today we’ve been with the brilliant Dead Pixel Films- another Manchester media production company based at Sharp Project. We’ve been hands on with some awesome cutting edge technology! What a great final activity day ahead of our last day and celebration tomorrow.

What an INCREDIBLE DAY!! We have been getting hands on experience making our very own TV show. With all the guidance and support of industry professions we made a really cool show and had a live performance from awesome local band Scapegrace 🙌🏼 An fantastic experience to showcase all the roles that go into making a TV show. We had a blast yesterday at the conference. Our crew of Zoe, Frankie and Joe were capturing the spirit of the day and speaking to delegates about their pledges to Cheshire and Merseyside’s young people.

We created a series of videos for the conference highlighting the need to empower young people.

Time for some from our new Project Manager Sarah!

Sarah is sharing her own mantra with us today and why it's something she truly believes in.

A great piece of advice…… Do what makes you happy.

"Over the years I have made a lot of big and small decisions with this in mind. Always look after yourself and if you go by what brings you joy, you’ll never make a bad decision.

Here’s a picture of me coming to MediaCity to discuss leaving my job of 14 years to take on the project manager role with TRA. What a happy decision this was!"

Our TRA alumni, Matt Bowcott, is sharing his own mantra with us today and why it's something he truly believes in.

A well-known saying that is recognised by so many of us... Everything Happens for a Reason.

"Through our life we will go through ups and downs. Things that will inspire us and things that will challenge us. What’s important is how you grow during every situation.

I have taken steps in my career some would deem risky or wrong. Made bold decisions that impact my life. For me it is about learning as we go.

Our family, friends and colleagues can support us through the difficult times and praise us during the good. They can offer advice or just be there to listen. If something goes wrong it is ok, we all make mistakes and we can take the next step forward with more knowledge that will shape future decisions."

No matter what life throws at you, you've got this, and The Reporters' Academy team will always have your back!

A new month = a new creative visit 🤩 Each month, we have the pleasure of hosting the new cohort from Catch22's TikTok Creative Academy at MediaCity UK to deliver masterclasses in filmmaking, interviewing and editing on a mobile phone. By the end of the session, each participant will have created their very own piece of content which is showcased to the group for feedback and praise! Huge well done to our facilitators Rosie and Katy for delivering another successful creative visit, dream team ✨ Plus, a huge thank you to the always wonderful dock10 for allowing us to use their facilities for our delivery - it means the world to us to be able to provide an inspirational and aspirational space for our young people to learn in and thrive off!

Last Friday, for International Women’s Day, we hosted a panel with our lovely client @Catch22 for their #TikTokCreativeAcademy which was filled with inspiring women within the creative industry. We were lucky to be visited by ITV, dock10, Contact Theatre, THG and Salford University as well as Catch22’s very own Janelle Vickers! The group asked important questions around breaking into the creative industry, standing out on a CV as well as ways to quieten down our imposter syndrome in order to become confident and successful. The advice given by our panel was insightful, thoughtful and accessible, meaning our cohort could take away pieces of information that would support them in their careers for years to come. A great opportunity for young people to expand their networks and create new contacts in their chosen industries and ask questions that serve their personal goals and ambitions.
