How is this 12 months already?
Honestly, I can’t believe it’s 12 months since I had the pleasure of finally getting to meet .kennedy97 and getting a knock at the STUNNING & with them over the weekend.
The welcome I got from staff at both clubs, espexially as a visitor was tremendous. Never had hospitality like it!
I came to meet new friends, and left knowing I’d got new golf family!

Cannot wait to come back over this June and enter a Midweek Open at Shannon and then testing myself off the tips at The Heritage, for a series I’m shooting on the channel.

Can’t wait to see you all again!

Haven’t really felt very ā€˜Golfy’ over this past month, which isn’t me at all.
Haven’t swung it well since on the course or the sim for that matter. And only 17pts in 13 holes last week was the worst I’ve scored in a long time!

But a post I read, from on ā€˜X’ really lit a fire in me today, and it was about practicing with purpose, which is something I always used to do.
But I’ve found, over the last 18 months, when I’ve done studio work, I really haven’t done it properly. It’s been more just going through the bag.

So I followed his post to the letter with 4 stations of 5 balls.
• First station was ā€˜Pause Drills’ - much harder than I thought it would be
• Second station ā€˜Slow Motion Swings’
• Third station ā€˜50%’ speed
• Fourth station was 90-100% swings

All these were in conjunction with the work I’d started doing with back in August, where I went back onto the summary of clips he’d over-voiced, following the lesson. I deffo need to go back and have some follow-ups in the coming month or two for sure.

Now, I know full well I won’t shoot the lights out tomorrow, that’s for certain as I really do need to work harder on the swing as these are just snaps of good shots. There was some very interesting pulls and a few HUGE blocks chucked in there šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Well the snow may have cancelled another Sunday Winter Comp , but thankfully they’ve an indoor studio with a couple of bays, so golf doesn’t have to stop, and we can still support the club/proshop with revenue!

and I took advantage of the GCQuad bay as there was coaching in the other.

Thought I’d post a few swings, I’ve not done for a little while.

• 6 iron - just trying something with take away, with handle feeling it’s pushing down early as I rotate. But still not happy with where the face points at the top of the swing - strike and result was ok, albeit it a little flat with flight.

• Standard driver swing - as you know I’m more of a controlled, fairway finder kinda gamer off the tee. So this was the stock drive carrying just 219yds

• Go at it driver swing - so this year I wanting to get fitter, stronger, flexible and faster. So I went back to the all out swing I was doing the other year - ball speed getting up to 139mph (this is what I ideally wanna get to consistently but without it looking so ungainly), carrying at nearly 235yds.

So for driver the baselines were good prior to me starting what need too. But a lot of work needing to be done before the true season starts and deffo lessons are needed.
Really want to get the swing tidier, consistent shape and better scoring over all. Only the holy grail for all amateurs šŸ˜‚

A great afternoon for my first Captains Drive-In
Lady Captain had the honour off the tee and under enormous pressure delivered the goods with a low draw down the left. It went a good distance as well. Well done.

Up stepped Mr Captain - Richard Ward. After a bit of teasing with the crowd, of which there was a handsome crowd, he stood up, and with a smooth swing hit the best tee shot I’ve seen any incoming Captain make, at any of the 4 clubs I’ve now been a member of!

Very much looking forward to the coming season, having Lesley and Richard as my respective captains.
I sincerely hope to get a few rounds with them both.

🚨FINAL STABLEFORD & MY FINAL COMP AT SALE🚨

21st around with 34pts wasn’t too bad, on a day where scoring was tough with windy and cool conditions with greens that hadn’t heeled from the recent weeks Greens Priority.

I had zero expectation coming into this because of the greens, and I was proved right with mystery and exaggerated deviations on the greens, due to open aeration holes. Same for us all but with a counting score dropping off, it put me behind the 8 ball to try and drop the hcp from 7.3 to 6.8 to finish where I stayed the year.

Sadly a blob two blobs hampered me getting near to 38pts which was the winning score.
That, and those said mystery deviations, where the ball either looked great in the air hitting the aeration holes or exited stage left or stage right as the pace of the ball died.

Some have said it was unfair to hold a qualifier whilst the greens played how they did, and I do agree; others have questioned why do this last priority knowing we still had a qualifier, where flexibility from Head Greenkeeper & Greens Committee could be used; but I also understand the club have to finish off their schedule before the winter comps come in due to daylight saving.
A tough call!

So all in all, an incredibly frustrating way to end a poor season. But I can’t just blame this last round.

N.B - you’ll see I’ve put my stats up twice. The first is to compare against my own hcp of 7 and the second is to compare what I am against a 4hcp which is the target.

Now the REAL hard work starts!
(1) the hunt for a new club - if indeed I decide to join one again for this winter and next season

(2) Continue to work on the swing and really grind in the changes made with plus build on those changes with him

(3) time to get fitter and get the exercise programme in place with

(4) work on my mental game

(5) work on increasing my swing speed with

Well that’s a wrap for me this season on the .tour

What a blast it’s been and to finish it off was a blast.

If I could have putted, I’d have been a golfer šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Swing felt good though, for the most part, with only a few blips in there. Deffo two courses I wanna come back to play again.

Great couple of days, on a great tour, with the best staff and great Pro’s and Am’s who play on it.

The swing felt the best it has, almost all year, the last two days for the season finale on the .tour .

The top of the back swing still isn’t right with how the face of the club is at, and the transition is still an abomination going steep and OTT.

The battle to improve continues, and much work is needed in the off season to kick on with the challenge I have set myself (more on that to come).

Thanks to (great caddy) for the photos on this post and video of this swing in my story.

Stats to come….

2nd place finish on .tour in a card play off. But that really doesn’t tell the story!

I had to win that event to leave a showdown this coming Monday for the OOM title. But alas that’s gone now.
Congrats to Mark Brookes for the season he’s had. Some exceptional playing out, of the blocks, early doors to take I firm grip on the OOM.

Despite the stats not looking great, I played REALLY well, with only a marginal misses for fairways and greens for the most part.

The putter however was cold. Just couldn’t get used to the pace of the greens which was affecting line. Sometimes they too break, other times they didn’t. And when you compensated the opposite happened. But the greens rolled pretty smooth for this time of year, and I loved the layout.

To blob two holes on the front and still have 18pts I was happy with how I stuck at it. Especially with a 3 putt in the 1st.

But 17 & 18 are haunting me!
Pushed driver OB on 17 (the first pushed drive of the day) hit me like a train. And then I double crossed myself on 18 with a straight pull.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda’s aren’t gonna change the result though.

Thanks to Wheatley GC for their hospitality and a great course and as always the team on 2020ProTour for putting on a great event on a great course!

Next year Rodders….I’ll be an OOM champion šŸ˜‚

🚨2020ProTour - Tour Experience Result 🚨

Well yesterday was a tough one at the magnificent

With blustering winds and a rainy front 9 it was certainly a battle.

I mustered 33pts which at best could have been maybe 4pts better, based on two easy putts missed and a blob on the 7th.

The plan was to vlog the round for a new series, thanks to Manchester GC giving me permission to film, but due to the weather I couldn’t take the risk getting the camera equipment wet.

Typically the weather improved on the back 9 dried up. But I made the right call I feel.
The series will start soon.

Thanks as ever, to an incredibly well run event by .tour and to Manchester Golf Club for hosting us and producing a great course that played tough but fair.

🚨August Medal Result🚨

Well I’ll take 10th spot, 0.6 reduction in hcp (back to 7.2), one of my best F.I.R to G.I.R ration of the year, with no double bogeys and no 3 putts!

And that’s only the second round after seeing at

I played so free on the front 9, but my head got in my way, thinking too much on technique on the back 9 after a HORRENDOUS fat on the 11th Par 3.

However, I may have had no 3 putts but I left so many short of the hole from between 6-25ft. Personally I think it was just tension in not wanting to 3 putt due to a decent round and with me getting fused to using the Backstryke D.A.R.T again, as the incert is so soft.

What pleases me, is I know there’s more in the tank, and once I feel a little more comfortable with the changes I’ve made with grip and in starting the transition, if the putting holds up, it could be an exciting end to the season.

🚨ATSG Showdown🚨

Not the result I’d hoped for in the .tour .golf Showdown, after a great practice round on Thursday.

Despite playing fairly well tee to green, with only a few mishaps due to zero confidence in my swing currently, my putting was absent - in fact it had gone AWOL.

30pts with 3 blobs is disappointing! The first of which, which typified how the round would pan out on the greens, came at the 2nd hole whereby I managed to 4 putt from 17ft.
I just couldn’t get to grips with the speed of the greens all day, or in fact the breaks which appeared to be massive in some circumstances. Greens looked faster than they were, and that’s not to say they were slow. Just a really poor day with the flat stick.

The course from the tee to the green played firm and fast, and with my ball flight and lack of distance, I had to pitch most things short, allow the land to take the ball. Sadly this resulted in much more missed greens than I wanted.

With just 30pts, the three blobs proved really costly as I was hoping for 36pts around there, which was achievable I felt.
This also means I’m still behind Marc Brookes in the OOM with events running out. Still, I’ve always been one to do things ā€˜last minute’ minute, so all to play for.

thank you so much for presenting a stunning course. Until I played Thursday I didn’t know Meltham GC existed and rest assured I’ll be here more often now.

I love how the course isn’t for bombers and you gotta play strategically; especially off the tee. 12,13, 14 are just a delight to play!

Folks, if you’re reading this far, put Meltham GC in your list.

Thanks to my playing partners , and of course my good pal for their company and competition!

Next up on .tour is for me the best testing golf course in the Manchester region - the simply stunning on 27 Aug

For those who are 1-28hcp, places are still available for the Tour Experience section (Male & Female all okay together) and at just Ā£55 it’s great value to play such a good course.
