This week's jazz session at the The Western Hotel has, alas, been cancelled. The Gary Hughes Trio were due to be in town, but have had to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances. "We will reschedule the concert for later in the year and we wish this amazing band the best for the remainder of their summer tour," said the St Ives Jazz Club, which confirmed it will be closed tomorrow (25th June).

This Tuesday at the The Western Hotel, the Jamie Crowle Quartet at the St Ives Jazz Club (a Big Kettle jazz night). Expect an energetic jazz funk and blues set, as well as some smooth jazz songs by George Benson.
A short commemorative service for the D-Day anniversary today, in front of the beautifully presented war memorial in St Ives. Representatives from St Ives Royal British Legion joined town councillors and local schoolchildren to pay their respects.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday) at the The Western Hotel the St Ives Jazz Club presents the Rory Ingham Trio. The line-up comprises Rory Ingham (trombone), Matt Carter (organ), and Luke Tomlinson (drums). They play a mixture of ferociously swinging standards and adventurous original music, written by all members of the group. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start. Free entry/pay what you can.
Nice to have a look around the new John Bedding show at the The Leach Pottery last night. These works are incredible, with designs influenced by travel, including time in Japan. Read more about the exhibition, which officially opens today, on our website (Arts news section) and do get along and see the show, which runs all through the summer until 8th September.

A love of wild swimming in St Ives Bay is the inspiration behind Heather McAlpine’s first solo exhibition at the Crypt Gallery in Norway Square, which is appropriately titled Immerse. Her semi-abstract, dream-like paintings capture the colours of the sea and shore at some of her favourite beaches, including Porthmeor, Porthgwidden, Gwithan – and “a secret cove”. This evening at The Western, jazz with the Charlie Wolfin Trio. Charlie is an exciting young jazz pianist currently based in Cornwall. After completing a jazz performance degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance he is currently performing throughout Cornwall.
