The AA has introduced flashing rear red lights to its fleet of breakdown vehicles in a significant move to improve the safety of its roadside patrols, its members and other road users.

The rollout follows new rules that allow motoring organisations and recovery operators to use ‘rear reds’ in a similar way to police and National Highways officers.

Bad habits and impatience is putting drivers at risk, new research from Venson Automotive Solutions reveals.

Published for Road Safety Week, the data reveals one in 10 drivers admit to ‘frequently’ tailgating, risky overtaking, failing to check mirrors sufficiently, missing an exit or taking the wrong exit at a roundabout or ‘zoning out’ and being unable to recall part of a journey.

Zenith has supported Carbon Literacy Action Day by hosting two carbon literacy training sessions for the company’s key suppliers.

Held earlier this month, the sessions were designed to increase awareness of decarbonisation in the automotive industry, and saw Zenith deliver Carbon Literacy training to more than 30 individuals across the company’s supply chain.

Collisions involving deer have increased 42% since the 2021 rutting season, new data from AA Accident Assist reveals.

Between mid-September to early November this year, 276 AA members hit a deer, compared to 195 over the same period in 2021.
There has been an annual increase in deer strikes throughout the rutting season, with 222 incidents in 2022 and 242 last year.

Hurd has 30 years of experience in the bodyshop industry and joined the FMG Repair Services team in 2022 as senior regional operations manager for the south west, before taking on a more expansive role across the south of the country in recent months.

Hyundai has revealed the Ioniq 9 electric SUV at LA ahead of its arrival in 2025 with up to seven seats and 385 miles (620km) of range.

The counterpart to the Kia EV9 and a rival to the Volvo EX90, the brand’s flagship model and its largest yet was previewed as the Seven concept three years ago, again at the LA Auto Show, and stays faithful to many of the original design cues.

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) has slashed emissions from its Boston fleet by replacing diesel with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

Results of a trial of the drop-in fuel on some non-electric vehicles have shown an 89% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and NGED is now using the fuel in over 100 vehicles across the county, with an average monthly mileage of 1,100.

Pothole damage claims more than doubled in 2023 but the vast majority are contested by councils and are unsuccessful.

In 2023, there were 20,432 pothole compensation claims submitted to 18 local authorities with the longest road networks – more than double the figure of 8,327 for 2022, according to analysis by the RAC.
