LAST CALL FOR COMPLAINTS - DEADLINE 11th AUGUST!!
The White Rooms is facing a threat from a planning application which has recently been submitted. A developer has applied to convert the garage directly next door to the rehearsal rooms and teaching studio into a one bedroom flat! Obviously, if this planning application goes through and the development goes ahead that is the end of the studio. There is no way that I could put in enough sound proofing to avoid noise complaints at that kind of proximity so the studio would inevitably be forced to close.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Having spoken to Music Venues Trust, they have recommended that I (and as many of you as possible) lodge a formal complaint against the planning application.
1. You can do that through the website (link in comments or use QR code)
2. Or by email: [email protected] (or QR code)
The Planning Refence is: NE/22/00838/FUL
YOU MUST INCLUDE THE REFENCE, YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS OR THE COMPLAINTS WILL NOT BE RECOGNISED – THESE DETAILS ARE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL
If you are able to do this, you need to mention that:
1. You are formally objecting to the development (particularly the garage/workshop conversion) and mention some or all of the following:
2. How important The White Rooms is to local bands
3. How it contributes to the local creative economy
4. How it is the only facility within the town that provides these facilities
5. How having a flat immediately adjacent to the studio will make impossible for it to continue operating
You also need to mention (or directly quote) the following legislation in your complaint from the National Planning Policy Framework:
187.
Planning policies and decisions should ensure that new development can be integrated effectively with existing businesses and community facilities (such as places of worship, pubs, music venues and sports clubs). Existing businesses and facilities should not have unreasonable restrictions placed on them as a result of development permitted after they were established. Where the operation of an existing business or community facility could have a significant adverse effect on new development (including changes of use) in its vicinity, the applicant (or ‘agent of change’) should be required to provide suitable mitigation before the development has been completed.
Which will hopefully force the developer to ensure that sufficient soundproofing is installed in the flat to avoid any complaints.
THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLAINTS IS 11th AUGUST 2022!
Please share this with any of the friends who use the studio and encourage them to make a formal complaint if at all possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll help as best I can!
